one of my favorite bands ever, i remember when i discovered them i was so impressed. When the 2nd album came out and i listened the record i was already waiting for then next one ( Nine ) ... had to wait LITERALLY 5 YEARS and when they released a teaser of "Reach Within" was like 50 seconds of the song and i was so excited . LOVE CIRCUS MAXIMUS. Great song that you picked. And by the way, they are in fact influenced by D.T. and people used to compare them a lot at least the 1st and 2nd album, but if you listen their work u can notice an evolution and how originals they are getting outside of the DT shadow. Isolate was the first album that I heard that brought them to my attention, every song a winner imo. There is some fantastic music coming out of this part of the world that does not get the recognition it deserves.

Love this band! great choice! Their first 3 albums are spectacular, their most recent album Havok is a little bit of a let down, bit too commercial for my taste, though it still has a few good songs on it. Nine is a masterpiece though, Isolate is where they really started to find their sound. The first chapter is essentially their tribute to DT and Symphony X, though it is a great album haha! Happy listening.

Here's a recommendation you won't get from anyone else. Circle of Illusion. They only have one album, Jeremias. It's a prog rock/metal masterpiece with 3 vocalists and extremely varied songs.

I suggest you to listen to Gerald Peter 's EP, released last year called "incremental changes". He is the guy behind Circle of Illusions. Others great "opera prog rock/metal" albums are the two from Flaming Row. Elinoir and mirage: a portrayal of figures. Those are my top 3 big concept album, even in front of all the ayreon 's that I love. Just to say how much underrated are the 3 I mentioned...

I thought the same with Havoc, until one really gave a good listening. It has it's radio rock moments way more than what I'd like, but it has some really good songs.. Isolate and Nine are still my favorite. First chapter is good, but to me they were still developing their sound, though Glory to the empire is one of my favorite songs by them.

Hey, Ruben. Just recently found you. My favourite band are Rush, and I was impressed by your reaction to "La Villa Strangiato" & then your reviews of DTP. Hadn't heard "Circus Maximus" before but really enjoyed this track. Thought they were like a cross between "Gabriel-era" Genesis, Yes & Muse! Will definitely look for more. Vanden Plas - "Postcard to God" (Official Live Video) Be sure to check them out, so underrated and amazing band. Amazing vocals and music, better vocals than James Labrie in my opinion. Cheers.

I was obsessed with NINE long before it's release and to this day is still one of my favorite albums ever. I feel like the album has everything that makes Circus Maximus who they are. After waiting over four years...Havok was a let down for the most part. It had some great moments but as a whole it's more pop and not progressive enough for me. Hoping their next album gets back to their roots.
