I saw this live over the summer. I was sweating bullets during this part. Watching it now on my computer, i am starting to sweat. This scares the shit out of me! But it's amazing. Cirque Du Soleil amazes me to no end.

I just saw this 5 days ago and the bartender was telling me the skipping guy is 60, and the other dude spinning it is his younger 50 year old brother. Apparently the 60 year old guy is trying to get his brother to take over, but his brother isn't that crazy. I guess when they were rehearsing before the show opened he fell and broke his back or something which delayed the shows opening by about 8 months. He knows if he falls he'll likely die, but it's doing something he loves.

Just saw this show yesterday. I liked it. Was a bit scared for a moment though. The climax jump rope scene, the guys feet got tangled, then tangled again and he fell. But recovered on the next loop and crowed cheered him on. What great showmanship.

This part was awwwwesome. When I watched (back when the show first premiered, wow) the guy managed to jump through the rope like 7 times in one single jump! It was amazing.

This is an amazing show, directed by one of the most talented film directors in Quebec (Canada): Robert Lepage. Check out his movies. Also, when watching the show, remember that the acrobats are underpaid, work for very long hours very hard with few real advantages (two weeks of vacation per year).

I remember while watching this thinking to myself (as they were just jumping on the INSIDE of the cages) "wait... they don't have harnesses on, do they?" little did I know what was to come, I agree that this was the highlight of the show.. All I could think as they were doing it was (to be blunt) "Fuck...that." hahaha.. super impressive.

What's always delighted me about this show and this scene in particular is that there's a narrative reason for the acrobatic trick. The Wheel of Death here isn't just a showy and risky set-piece; in-story, it's meant to be a machine, an industrial piece of equipment powered by slaves, so we're supposed to feel uncomfortable about watching it. The show 'OVO' (2000) had a similar storyline element in the form of a tower. CDS should do more narrative shows, it's better for audience engagement.

saw it a month ago, same two guys doing wheel of death. Most of the actors are the same as far as i can tell with exception of the chief and the yellow tribesman (now tribeswoman)

How do you mean? Fwiw this scene is this show is about a villain whom the audience are meant and encouraged to find despicable for his abuses of human life, so am not sure it really applies in this case.

the begining sounds like mortal kombat.

I wouldn't say best show ever by any stretch. I think la Reve (spelled right?) and O are better IMO but still worth 125 150 though. Seats at that price are back a bit but you can still see well enough.
@phapboy111 жыл бұрын
La Reve isn't actually Cirque. Such clever marketing though!

What music is playing? This IS NOT in the CD I purchased in the gift shop after the show.
@pendafen7405 Жыл бұрын
The soundtrack on streaming platforms doesn't seem to have this cue either! Annoying, the electric guitar/industrial rock work in this score is the highlight imo.

It was pretty intense, and also completely set the tone for the drama happening right in front of us.

Okeyyy.yy..- who´s bello Nock again?!? I don´t understand the triple-Thing. okey, aesthetic, maybe... but it only would make sence if they change the wheels while spinning or rihgt up.
@CatBot0072 жыл бұрын
The thing is supposed to be a bone grinder. Maybe one part needs more torque hence the need for 1 more slave
@keithpatrick156 Жыл бұрын
I assume it's mainly for aesthetics, but from a practical standpoint, it gives the act three different points to hand off the whips and jump ropes.

@@CatBot007 I saw it a few months ago, and it looked like a lot of the main performers were still the same (the Wheel pair certainly did, as did the main female clown(?)). The singers have changed up, though. FWIW, this part was probably the coolest part and just about identical to what's showing here.
