Chadwick Boseman - I too had stage 3 Colorectal cancer at the same time as Chadwick - undergoing very difficult surgery and chemo. I barely had the energy to sit in a chair - I was in AWE when I watched this man give interviews, how he found the strength to even drive to a movie studio, let alone work on a film is totally beyond me. I’m one of the lucky ones I suppose , I survived , Chadwick very sadly didn’t , but his legacy will live on and he will never be forgotten .

When I came back from Iraq in 2004, I was diagnosed with the terminal brain tumor and they gave me five years to live. This April will be my 21st cancer anniversary. There is not a day that I fear the inevitable, but I have been blessed. I got to walk my daughter down the aisle. I got to watch my son graduate from college and I got a beautiful granddaughter.

Patrick Swayze's interview was amazing. He was so realistic about what was to come, but not in a disparaging way. He'd just come to accept it. I didn't see it until after his passing, and it was so crazy to think that a man who clearly had so much left to give was just gone all of a sudden.

There is a drug called KeyTruda. My father had stage 3 lung cancer in 2018 and he is in stable remission. The drug is not chemo, it is a biologic that tries and target cancer cells related to that particular cancer. He is in the top 15% of survival rate. Please if you have a loved one with lung cancer, ask about this drug. He had no serious side effects either. He still drinks beer in spirts. Now he drinks reverse osmosis water and cut back on sugar, but still indulges in Beer now and then. He did make about 140k per year as an engineer. This forced him to retire early, but he wants to go back to work ( he isn't ), but my point is, he extended his life and the only variable is that drug. When I refer to stable remission, he does have cancer, but it's shrinking to the point, he doesn't need chemo and it's not advancing. His last FULL remission lasted 3 years. So I'd expect the same. So that mean so far he has had it for 6 years and probably projects another 2.5 years off his histology. Giving him a survival rate of 8-9 years and maybe more.

I had stage three cancer. They say that the cancer is in remission. Like Shannon Doherty , I am freaked out sometimes because I don’t know what to do with myself anymore. The cancer was with me for a long time and I was getting ready to let go. Now I sit and talk to Jesus Christ and I asked Him to put whatever he wanted me to do in front of me. Here I am saying even the worst of cancers can be beat. I ate nothing but ice cream , cake and candy. I’d drink an Ensure and eat jello. That and a super upbeat attitude as well as talks with my angels and listening to God did help greatly. I never prayed for a miracle but rather told God what I would do to get rid of the cancer and what I expected Him to do. It was the best choice of my life.

Patrick Swayze, always a true gentleman. I’m surprised that Karen Carpenter wasn’t mentioned here. Her last interview was kind of sad because of how gaunt she had gotten from battling anorexia. Very sad.

The problem with Karen Carpenter was she denied anything was wrong with her up till the end. Also she didn't have a "terminal disease". She died unexpectedly of a heart attack

Bad things happen at Christmas. Like Jon Benet Ramsey.

Shannon Daugherty and Chadwick Boseman get me the most. For him because he was so young. For her because she probably would have beat it if they hadn't locked us all down. I was looking down the barrel at a cancer diagnosis during that time as well, and thank God I didn't have that, or it could have advanced beyond help

Cancer is so complex, and not just one illness, but many, affecting different organs and systems differently. Knowing this, and having my biochemist spouse explain it, it’s likely most forms of cancer will be treated more as a chronic condition like diabetes and asthma. We’re just not quite there yet. So it hurts more, seeing people dying young, or dying in such distress. We managed it with AIDS, at least. But other diseases: dementia, ALS, autoimmune disorders…we still have a long way to go
