I used to sing and dance to this with my Granddaughter Aliah changing the words to "My Aliah". Today on the 6th of July 2024 that little girl now Competitive Gymnast and US National Champion, Aliah Raga has taken the Gold for the USA in Portugal for Gymnastics Double MIni Trampoline. several years ago i have seen alegria in Sofia, Bulgaria. At some point, a kid told to her mother - "Mom, this is not a circus" - i tought she was complaining, but the next she said (she was about 7 y.o) - "This is a fairytale". And she could not be more right. This fairytale is still the best thing i have ever seen live and the songs brings tears in my eyes almost every time i hear it. I am sorry they decided to stop performing it as i hoped one day my daughter who is now 1.5 y.o will be able to enjoy it.

I saw Alegria 5x when it first came to Santa Monica, CA and I'm so very happy I did. Each performance was slightly different -- one night the sweet girl with her hula hoops, the next week a different lead vocalist, another time two contortionists instead of the hula hoops. I found it so incredibly captivating that, a full 5yrs later (in 1999), I named my daughter Alegria. The song, Alegria, is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

I saw Alegría's 3000th performance in Austin TX, May 2003. I have never enjoyed a live performance as much. Perhaps it was because I was sitting in the 2nd row, above a group of little kids who were mesmerized the whole time! I enjoyed watching them as much as the incredible performers & music. When I got back to Vancouer BC a few weeks later, I arranged for a group of friends to join me under the big top to see Alegría. It had just arrived in town for a week-long stay! Best summer evening we all spent together! ♡

The fire act...the two men there, especially one in particular (I wish I knew his name...he's fantastic), looks so incredibly happy. Such Glee. The man preforming 20 seconds in, he has such a glee in his face...it's unforgettable. I've seen it hundreds of times circulating in the Alegria tribute videos, and it's one of the most potent images that come to mind when I think of this show. It looks like...genuine glee. Not "show-bizz- smiling/acting". Whether it is or not, that look on his face is incredibly effective.

I was lucky to have experienced Alegria twice, with the amazing singing talent that is Francesca Gagnon. For me that was the best, the music, tempo and the incredible troop. I remember it like it was yesterday even though more than twenty five years have passed.
