Great content, one question. Why do you have Routers in your design behind the SD-WAN vEdge devices? Or are the vEdge's 'logical' in your design? For example, if I am running Viptela on a Cisco 1000 series Router at a branch site do I also need a 'legacy' Router at this site as well? Or in your design is the Cisco 1000 series Router running Viptela the 'logical' vEdge and the Cisco 1000 series Router is the 'IOSx' Router in your design?
@RobRikerTechChannel4 жыл бұрын
Great question! The IOSv routers are there to simulate LAN devices behind the vEdges as well as allow for routing and other services testing that a PC or Server wouldn't allow.
@oliver11214 жыл бұрын
@@RobRikerTechChannel Awesome, that is great to hear. I thought I was missing something that meant we still needed to run 'legacy' Routers behind the SD-WAN solution. Very glad this isn't the case with Cisco. If you look into other SD-WAN solutions on the market I think some of them require you to still run a 'legacy' Router behind the SD-WAN solution. Keep up the great work Rob.

Is it worth noting the challenges of overlay and underlay routing from the same interface so for a hub site it may be best practice to front end transport such as mpls with a router if underlay is needed such as to route directly to some form of cloud express route over mpls or non SDWAN site?
@RobRikerTechChannel4 жыл бұрын
@@jlosFLTX if I understand what your talking about, placing a router in front of the SD-WAN device to enable connectivity to some cloud provider?
@jlosFLTX4 жыл бұрын
Rob Riker's Tech Channel correct like via MPLS to an express route (underlay). Can you send traffic to these destinations over the underlay via VPN 0 without a separate CE router in front of the VEdge.

Damn, this is so much more convoluted thank Meraki. All the cert stuff I've done before with VPN tunnels and stuff, but with SD-Networking I was looking forward to getting away from all this manual CSRs and cut and paste stuff.
@RobRikerTechChannel4 жыл бұрын
yeah, there are much more easier ways to deploy, but when going strictly on premises, without needing a Cisco account, this is how I was able to do it.
@jtdg58494 жыл бұрын
@@RobRikerTechChannel Interesting. I doubt I'll ever do Cisco's solution, but it is still interesting to see what all is going on with it. Some of the guys at Router Gods have made comments that made me feel Cisco's offering was not the best choice. I just can't help myself from learning at least what it about. Thanks for posting all this.

My opinion is simple, learn the technologies and solutions. The more tools in your tool bag the more options you have to meet the customers needs.

Very good stuff in here .. thanks for the video .. Can this be applied on a whole service provider that runs MPLS, segment routing or this is meant to be for enterprise mainly who are trying to communicate with other branches over the internet ?

Not meant for Private WAN provider. Meant for enterprise that wants to make their WAN more flexible.

Thanks Rob, great series I've got a question, did you use the cisco plug and play portal to whitelist the vedges? I've got an isr I want to add to the lab and I don't want to use the portal, is there a walk around for this?

I didn't add any ISR or CSRs. I'd recommend using vMike Networking, he goes through all of that stuff.

Make sure to set the cloud to cloud 0, for mgmt. That's what I do, it'll put that device on the same subnet you use to reach the website on.

hey rob why you don`t want to make the video i need from you ? you`re making a lots of videos and that means you`ve the time not like what you said before that you don`t have much time please rob, i need this video about contiguous/discontiguous network thanks
@RobRikerTechChannel4 жыл бұрын
right now it doesn't fit in right now. contiguous > 10.1.1.0/24 10.1.2.0/24 discontiguous > 10.1.10.0/24 10.1.20.0/24 not much to it. contiguous just means it would be easy to summarize several individual routes into a single larger advertisement. discontiguous doesn't allow for that as easily, but its still possible to do it.
