This makes all the protheans seem like they're awful to be around and they just want to eat you all the time. Don't know about others but I hope javik just happened to be one of the suckier ones.

That's kinda the point and Javik's lesson to Shepard. They were a brutal empire that couldn't put aside their differences to unite and stop the Reapers.

@@miachang097 Eh, not really. Were they a brutal empire? Yes. Were they unified? Also yes. The Protheans were the only galactic force of note and they subjugated and integrated all other races (to the point that they themselves also referred to themselves as Protheans). In fact, their unity and centralization was their downfall when the reapers took out the citadel (i.e. their place of government and central transportation hub). It's more a lesson of unity by hegemony vs unity by cooperation.
