I had this as a kid when it came on in the 80s on the bbcb, then in my twenties I was fortunate enough to get to play it every day after work on a spectrum until I finally managed to finish it.

At 8:55 are you aware that you can actually get past that screen? If you take a trampoline there and put it on the pad you can bounce on and off the screen to reset the enemies and then when you have enough height go over them and jump off. If you fall off the world you go down past multiple screens and eventually land on the start screen - not as in where you start the game but the main menu screen! Its very strange! :) Also thanks for this video. I don't know what made me think of this game but I'm glad to get my hit of nostalgia off of this! :) I also never remember seeing any plot to this so was interesting to hear it! We just worked out what to do on our own. :)

Truly amazing! Used to love playing this game round my uncles when i was a kid, im now 32 this brings back so many good memories. How games have changed since then ay!

I played this a couple of times on my mother's friend's BBC Micro. It always struck me as a very well thought out game, but I could never figure out what the hell was going on. Your video clears a lot of it up. :)

Once I cooked the chicken I realised this was far more than a jet set willy collect em up. And discovering the bricks gave you health at a building in the wasteland. Cit a doddle.

BTW that monk that you climb the ladder to kill before pulling the lever... pretty sure you can just go straight to the lever to activate the monk. I think only your X coordinate is accounted for for getting monks to chase you.

I completed this with help from a map in the bbc micro magazine (what ever it was called) use to love this game. Thanks for making the video

I used one one of the game cheats discs? tapes? iirc to complete never would have done it otherwise run out of energy/health far too soon

I just found your link to this video on the Stairway to Hell forum. Great work, thanks for the upload, can't wait to watch it all... in fact I might fire up the Beeb and have my laptop along side it, and use your videos to guide me through the game. Are you playing and speaking at the same time? In which case, nice multitasking!

Lovingly known as Shitadel by computer nerds at my school, as the voice had a habit of saying "Shitadel" instead of "Citadel", especially if your copy of Citadel was a bit old.... or the program had been altered by said computer nerds!

I fucking LIVED!!! This game as a child.. i must have played it over 100,000 times.. NEVER completed it.. EXCEPT ONCE!!! LISTEN TO THIS!!! at 7:27 in this video he enters a sandy block with a skull on it.. I swear on my poor fathers grave.. that this happened... one day im messing around.. and get stuck in that skull block.. so im twisting and turning around.. and suddenly something fucking WEIRD!!!! happened... The score starting whizzing past.. until it hit 200 i think... then suddenly.. a CONGRATS SCREEN appeared telling me I had completed the game... i was like WTF!!!! And i tried MANY MANY MANY times after to make it do it again.. (which is why i know it wasnt a dream or anything) and it never did.. could never get it to repeat itself.. very odd indeed.
