8:58 The easier way of doing this Asia-originating roundtrip from the US is what I call "nested roundtrips", where you fit a shorter roundtrip itinerary within another longer-duration one to get the savings on both. Last year I managed to complete a triple-nested travel plan, where an out-and-back visit to the Philippines fit within a roundtrip to Korea within a roundtrip to Australia 🦘 from China.

Won't get a card from a company with such bad customer service. They closed my checking account last year for "fraud" (after opening it a month prior). I had one transaction in the entire account history, besides the initial deposit, which was withdrawing 2 dollars. I spent 6 hours inside and right outside a branch trying to get my money back. Absolute trash company.

🦘We used the Strata Premier in the 17 countries we visited this year. It is the best card for use outside the US, with 3X on gas, groceries, dining, etc. We book flights with the Amex Plat and hotels with the chain's card (Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt, IHG, etc.) We used the $100 hotel credit at the Mercure Iguazú Falls, Argentina for 3 nights, meaning we were paid $5 to use the card (as VentureX fans say).

The Citi Strata portal gave me a room full of cockroaches (it was Hilton for the record) then denied my refund. Terrible customer service.

thanks as always sebby!!!! i have a big annual biz spend, and have the usual cards for amex, chase, citiaadvantage, and C1. been tempted to get this card since 1)i could channel some of the spend to it, without affecting the other ecosystems too much 2) i am intrigued by a possible premium citi card that we keep hearing about. 3) possible merger of some type with citi and AA cards. your thoughts? ty

1. Yes, most people have cards in multiple ecosystems. 2. Not sure when the premium Citi card is coming out, hopefully soon! 3. Citi already has co-branded cards with AA.

@@AskSebby ty sebby. i was not clear on 3)....i have a personal and biz citiaadvantage card, but was wondering if the other citi cards will ever be able to transfer points to AA.....heard at one point that AA might think their valuable points/miles system might be devalued if several more cards were able to earn AA points, so it might be a no go. mm

Great video as always! I’m keeping Citi in my radar while I’m finishing up with my personal Chase cards, so I’m happy to hear they’re maintaining their viability as a travel card option in light of stronger competition. Just want to note that I forget if it’s easy or hard to insert a corrective caption, but you said “18k” for a first class round trip flight at 10:28 and I’m sure you meant “180k”.

You loose a day when you leave LA in Wednesday arriving at Sydney around 7 or 8 am of Friday, , in the way back leaving in Friday arriving in Friday as well, cool scene to see the sun stop and going backwards. Hahaha

I’m trying to decide if it’s worth a Chase 5/24 slot! It has almost the same multipliers as the Wells Fargo Autograph but the WF has no annual fee. But not as many transfer partners. I’m trying to decide if it’s better the chase Sapphire preferred?

Only issue I have with getting this card is sense I don’t value to hotel credit as I don’t plan to spend $500 a hotel stay and especially through citi travel portal so there is no way to get back a $95 annual fee and spending would be one if I couldn’t get the same multiplers with other cards

Since the Strata Premier is promoted as a travel card, and most no AF 2% catch-all cards charge 3% for foreign charges, I think using that simple “break even” equation is a bit misleading. There needs to be a factor for international spend in the equation since that’s the true benefit/power of the card 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Good point! I think only the CO Savor one is one of the few no annual fee cards with no FX fees.

@@AskSebby The US Bank Altitude Connect also has no AF and FX fees, and probably compares better with the Strata Premier, except for limited redemption options 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ In fact, a “Strata vs Connect” comp video might be a good idea 👍🏾👍🏾

They offered me a free year upgrade from the r+, and i chose to pay the fee in the following year. Now i just run 2x custom cashes and the premier until i know I'll redeem sometime soon, then I'll pc one back to r+ for the rebate

@@AskSebby Me and my P2 both have the Double Cash and Custom Cash. She also has the R+ and got the same offer when the Premier was only 60K so passed and waited for the Strata Premier 75K Welcome Offer. We will downgrade 1 to another Custom Cash but keep 1 as we want to get the EVA-Miles via Citi-TYP.

I usually chalk complaints as the vocal minority, but it’s pretty common and widespread when people say Citi’s customer service and operations is terrible. Something as basic as identity verification, they do it only through postal mail. Or adding your card on Apple Pay triggers fraud and locks your card. And of course when they don’t honor legitimate chargebacks. These reasons alone would make me avoid Citi.

Silly credit card newbie question. From what I have seen, Capone Venture X and Chase Sapphire Preferred both have Singapore airlines on their travel partners. So does that mean I can pool both points together into my Singapore airlines? Thanks.

I have no issues with the card other than it looking and feeling cheap as hell. $95 AF should carry a better looking card, o wait the Citi Premier was solid and looked premium! I’m curious Citi’s next move on premium cards I’ll product change in a heart beat if it makes sense!

That's right! Mentioned in the video that the super power is that the Citi Strata Premier has all the multipliers in one card vs having 3 to get all the multipliers.

100000% the most underrated card out there… 3x direct booking flights, 3x groceries, 3x dining, 3x gas… and no foreign transaction fees. Plus, 1:2 ratio to Choice is completely overpowered with their higher end hotels.

Great card until you try and add it to Apple Pay and realize the only verification method is a landline phone or snail mail (vs text like other banks), oh and then being put on fraud alert while waiting for the verification code 😂. Just way behind the times technology wise

You'd only need to do it once though? I had my card mail forwarded to me overseas and have been using it all year without issue, don't even remember what check was needed to get it into my Apple Wallet.
