A small motor, threaded rod, maybe a 3D printed gear (or jaycar should have something) and a simple frame would work, or go a cable setup and then you could use it on different heights too. How about an elevated mag-lev style train with a platform slicing through the middle of the buildings? Make the 'track' walkable, maybe even have a few mag lev carts on the tracks for movable line-of-sight blocking, etc. The hover train could also be at the height of a building's platform...and that building could have a crane attached to the side, etc.

As a Necromunda player, I love this. Some of the Sector Mechanicus kits might make for some interesting mid-town buildings, as well as supply you with more gantries and legs, and the Zone Mortalis stuff should give you more pillars if you need them, as well as external elevator kits. I've always wanted to make something along the same lines as this build (although even in my imagination, my buildings weren't as big as yours) but also include access points at street level to enter an underground tunnel network to combine both street level combat, and claustrophic corridor combat. You might also want to look for the 90s era Necromunda bulkheads for some additional wall sections. I might also need to find that Cities of Death book.

Mikey my lad, we are birds of a feather haha. The original version of this board I made as a kit had a massive sewer complex that we could have on a second table to the side that units could access by going down manholes in the streets, and you're spot on with those kit recomendations! lets see that mechanized madness! how cool would it be for terrain to be constantly moving, like not just once in the game but like skyscrapers like this maybe has some above city rail transport that is constantly moving. or maybe next time or for another terrain build like inside a forge or something but where like the terrain is constantly moving every turn!! anyways cool video still feeling pretty inspired to build my own. well ive been wanting to build my own terrain for a while now but still very cool!

Joseph you're onto something here!! I've got a couple of city blocks put aside to be a ForgeWorld complex I might look into some automation!

Dude, that looks great. I've never had the money for Citadel terrain, my 40k table at home is mostly foamcore.

Yeah it's pricey stuff, all of those kits is the summation of an entire childood of pocket money of me and my best mate haha

It looks awesome. I'm unsure of the actual playability though, when everything is built and you need to reach around inside buildings on the 3rd floor to move a couple of models etc. that's going to be a pain.
@matthiasschlag51093 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. The visual effect of these buildings is amazing, but how do you move models when another unit is already 4 floors above? That's a lot of on/off for these buildings.
@Zorpazorp3 жыл бұрын
Just have a table to the side to pick up models and carefully place them down, then make your move and whack it back on :) Ity wil lall be magnetised in the end to make it less painful. But also, who cares mannnnnnnnnnnnnnm when boards look amazing a bit of playability sacrifice is worth the immersion in my opinion :) All I play is narrative anyway :)

Awesome work! Just one question tho, what is that stuff you spray on after the glue? 👀

I found this channel a month ago from the question "can stupidly big terrain be playable?" I enjoyed the video, have enjoyed quite a few more, am constantly inspired to put more into my terrain. But! I need to know how to adjust rules (40k specifically) to make such things work! This set looks perfect for kill team and necromunda, but I can't see how it could ever work for 40k. And I want it to so bad!

I'm yet to play 9th ed properly so I cant answer yet, but movement house rules are probably on the cards haha
