Cities Skylines 2: How to Create a Modern and Beautiful City with Hexagons

In this video, I’m going to show you how I built an amazing hexagon city in Cities Skylines 2, the best city building game ever. Cities Skylines 2 is a game where you can create and manage your own city, with endless possibilities and challenges. You can customize your map, choose your buildings, design your roads, provide services, and much more. In this video, I decided to do something different and create a city that is shaped like 5 large hexagons, which are placed together, and two other complete the pattern. This city is completely modern and has all possible facilities and services. Tall buildings and skyscrapers are next to houses and apartments, and next to them, smaller villas are all inside this city. It took me a long time to build this city, but I’m very satisfied with the result. I think it’s one of the most incredible and unique cities I’ve ever seen in Cities Skylines 2. Thank you for your comment and your question. I’m glad you are curious about how I prepared for my hexagon city project.. Here is the answer to your question: Before starting the game, I drew a basic plan on paper of what I was going to build. I sketched the shape and the layout of the hexagons. This didn’t take much time, maybe an hour However, the construction process to complete the city took a lot longer. I had to customize the map, place the quay walls, design the roads, choose the buildings and... In total, it took me about 5 days from the start to the completion and uploading of the video. I tried to make the video as smooth and as interesting as possible, without losing the details and the quality of my city. @@michaelmitten2977 Yes, Sure: CPU: i5 6500 Ram: DDR4 32gb GPU: NVIDIA 3060TI I don’t think the slowness of my game is due to the game itself, but rather to my old CPU. I need to upgrade my system soon. CS2 is a very demanding game, especially when you build large and complex cities. However, I think the game has improved a lot since its release, thanks to the frequent updates and bug fixes that the developers have provided. I get a new update almost every week, which makes the game more stable and enjoyable. I hope this helps you decide whether to start playing CS2 or not. It’s a great game and I highly recommend it. ☺👍

Just crazy how you still keep it simple but realistic... I have a problem when playing city builders, it always looks empty... I can't create a transition from city to nature, yet some of you youtubers do it so effortlessly... it reminds me of barbers, how when they cut your hair, it looks good whatever they do, but when I try the same thing at home, I look like an imbecile :D

When I first started building cities, I always felt like something was missing. I couldn't create a good balance between the city and nature. But over time, with more playing, I got better. I used to try to copy designs that I saw from others and liked. Gradually, this helped me to implement the designs that I create myself better and more fundamentally. In general, it is not a very difficult task, just patience and perseverance is needed. I am sure that you will also get better with practice and repetition. Just make sure that you enjoy building cities ❤👍

Maybe a stupid question, but how do i get new buildings like Airport in game on cities skyline? assets etc and btw is it possible to use skyline 1 assets on skyline 2?

Hi there, Thanks for watching the video and leaving your question. In Cities Skylines 1, you can use custom assets and official DLC to add new buildings and features to the game. This can give you a lot more options and possibilities for your cities. In Cities Skylines 2, this feature is not yet available. For now, you can only use the default buildings and features that come with the game. However, the developers have said that they plan to add this feature in the future. I don't think it will be possible to use Cities Skylines 1 assets in Cities Skylines 2. Each game has its own unique assets and features. To download custom assets, you can visit the Cities Skylines Workshop. To download official DLC, you can visit the Paradox Store. I hope this helps!

Thanks for your comment! I'd be happy to discuss the various choices I made throughout the design process of this city. As you mentioned, I always start with a rough sketch on paper. This helps me to get a general idea of the layout and the overall look of the city. Once I have a good idea of what I want to create, I start building in the game. One of the most important choices I made was to use a hexagonal grid for the city layout. This grid provides a lot of flexibility and allows me to create a variety of different shapes and sizes for the city blocks. It also makes it easier to connect the different parts of the city. Another important choice I made was to focus on efficiency. I wanted to create a city that was easy to navigate and that would provide a good quality of life for its residents. To do this, I paid close attention to the placement of roads, public transportation, and other amenities.

honestly.. probably not as much as a grid system of this size. hexagons irl are way more efficient, both traffic-wise and money-wise. the only reason the US has the grids and cul-de-sacks is because this famous designer dude misinterpreted the hexagon city plans and made them appear less efficient than they are

Я отредактировал каждое видео отдельно и подстроил кадры, чтобы создать эти изображения. Я знаю, что это было сложно, но мне очень хотелось сделать это. Here is the answer to your question: My raw footage was about 18 hours before I edited it. However, I had to spend a lot of time waiting for the construction of different buildings to complete .Moreover, I had to deal with the slowness of the game and my computer. My computer’s CPU was not very powerful and it struggled to handle the complexity and the size of my city. The game was running very slowly and sometimes it crashed or froze. I had to wait a bit longer for the game to load and respond. I also had to save my progress frequently and restart the game occasionally. In total, it took me about 5 days from the start to the completion and uploading of the video. I tried to make the video as smooth and as interesting as possible, without losing the details and the quality of my city. i had the same idea when I first started.....but was too new to actually know what to build. After a few weeks playing, I should get back to building my own hex city. My idea was much smaller hex suburbs linked together. Then layer it into step up but I couldn't work out how to make it work in road connections.

Yes, I completely agree with you. I also would have liked to do more residential and commercial zoning in this map. The space was available, but unfortunately the processing of it was beyond the capabilities of my computer and it could not handle any more pressure. However, I plan to get a new computer in a few weeks and I will definitely work on larger maps with more details at that time, which will definitely be both more beautiful and more realistic.

I appreciate your attention and your comment. I must admit that I did not get the idea for the video from anyone. It is natural that hexagonal cities look similar from a distance, especially if they are built on the same grid. However, I tried to make my city unique by using a different internal design for the hexagons, as well as a unique system of canals and roads. I don't think my city is similar to any other hexagonal city on KZbin. Of course, I appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of other hexagonal cities as well. But I wanted to create something different. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of my computer, I am not currently able to fully implement my ideas. I have to create smaller and less complex cities than I would like so that my computer can handle them. @@play4fn Indeed. They have curves and shapes. Really well organized. Looks good and all. But they are fundamental different from what I build. That is kind of full chaos. I even tried to make a map of my own. I wonder why the pre built intersections have this box around them that stops you from building in that zone. I hand crafted all of them and without thinking. I make a downtown highway area. Im not the one that plans anything when making cities. They just blobb out.

I've found that the pre-built intersections can be limiting, so I admire your creativity in finding workarounds. Actually, I also try to build my own intersections based on my needs. 👍❤

@@play4fn Indeed. My city building is organised chaos. The thing is that in ingame, building intersections is fun, it is simple and has a flow to it. In editor. Not so fun to build them at all. That is due to the menu is a list that goes to all things each time you open the menu, so each time you need a one lane motorway instead of a two/three lane, you need to open up the items list, go to the roads tab, find it in that list, and the putting down the roads is stiff and for some reason the roads hight can just take off. Like the map is flat as a pancake where im going to build. Draw a road and sometimes it gaines some hight and sometimes it dips down, Sometimes it just take off as you are building up a cliff wall.
