When making those roundabouts, lay a straight road first and make a + shape, then use the curved tool to create perfect circles. It's maddening to watch you try and hand-draw those roundabouts, even though you do it exceptionally well all things considered :P Also, if you do the straight internal "guide roads" first, then attach the external roads to it, you avoid that situation where the roundabout spontaneously disfigures itself. Only delete the internal guide roads if they are creating snapping problems or once you've added all the external ones. Cool city though - I'm glad to finally see a KZbinr on City Skylines who doesn't have square grids in 99% of their city.

You could have looked at how cities started in the netherlands. Put a church next to the big main road. call it "Kerkweg". Then add a smaller road in the pother direction called "Dorpsstraat". add the main square called "marktstraat' (or something like that). And ofcourse the "stationsweg", randweg, industrieweg ect. most towns started with that. from there on the "dead end streets" areas start. From there on the districts are dedicated to a theme. like streets with painter names, tree names, famous people names. apart from that, looks pretty accurate.

I know what you mean when you talk about the way the roads are set up. I remember a great time I had back in the 80's in a lovely place called Venlo. What got me was when walking under the motorway into town from the Pub we were camping at, there was very little noise even though there was a lot of traffic. You're also like us Brits in some ways, lots of small roundabouts on minor roads (but with more style ) Looking forward to see how this develops. :)

This is very similar to a lot of suburban developments built here in the UK in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. Full of winding roads you can easily get lost on and trapped because of all the dead ends haha. Netherlands in one of the cleanest countries I ever seen, the infrastructure is awesome and the country looks beautiful, especially the countryside. However what I've heard from the locals is that the taxation system is just horrible where in some cases you pay 70% of your salary in tax, most of locals drive those old shitty 1.0L cars because of the insane insurance costs. and also the immigration policy hurts.
@thunderslasher82269 жыл бұрын
Sweden is I think cleaner
@irmscher99 жыл бұрын
+Papa John's Pizza Inc. Nope, definitely not. But Sweden hasn't got such a dense population which makes it a more interesting country in terms of travelling actually. I prefer wild nature like in Finland, Sweden and Baltics more than high density, hand made parks and fences all over the place.
@SianaGearz9 жыл бұрын
+Blah b Some people also count mandatory health insurance under "tax", so you could indeed be left with relatively little, but this really only applies to people whose financial needs are already covered, i mean the minimum living wage is completely untaxed etc. so poor are only moderately burdened. I don't know how it is exactly in the Netherlands really, i live in a neighbouring country, i suppose it's similar enough. It is to be said though, i have high degree of confidence in the system and am not bothered that most of the money i earn goes away, it goes to support the important infrastructure and decent living conditions for everyone, keeping us safe and satisfied. There are of course numerous things that can and should be criticized, but on the whole, it's a great way to live. Recently though, there has been a push to "liberalization" and i dislike it, besides being a misnomer, if pushed too far, it would destroy our overall standard of living for the benefit of the few, and i just hate seeing unhappy people who can't get their ends to meet at all and whose basic needs are not met.

Everytime I try to build a city in Cities Skyline I kinda surrender at some point and look at Dutch cities after it to feel even worse. Alkmaar, Heerhugowaard... you can basically just scroll anywhere and it looks like some crazy mathematician painted a street network based on his favorite wave function. It's not a basic grid, but it's so extremely structured, even when it's not just some symmetrical form. I mean look at the neighborhoods around Middeldijk near Rotterdam. Most of the structures don't even repeat, but they fit so nicely together.
@WontonTV7 жыл бұрын
The way those neighbourhoods look is pretty similar to Calgary, Canada. Though they don't build roundabouts over here...

Basicly as I understand it Dutch cities are laid out after the tree hierarchy road structure which is a pretty common way to design new city areas today around the world. Where you try to avoid having traffic go though you neighbourhoods, but have large central roads connecting each region. I find this way of building cities in Skyline better then the grid system as if you build a American style grid city you get a lot of traffic congestion. Which is actually a problem with real cities to and why the tree hierarchy style cities have gained more favour in resent years.

I love to build cities like this in CSL. It is not that uncommon in Germany either to structure new neighbourhoods like this. It is reminds me a lot of automatic handscript in arts. Having neighbourhoods with only some connections to main roads isn't that uncommon in the US, too. The difference is that in Europe they try and often need to adapt it to the landscape and more often curvy, existing main roads and the planers keep cyclists and other pedestrians in mind.
