I have now watched 3 and a half episodes of this and one thing you did in the first one still itches a bit in my eyes! :D It's the off ramp to the garbage-area that you put before(!) the onramp for the traffic from the city. When garbage-trucks are going back to the landfills and incinerators they can't use that road.. You might have fixed this already in an later episode.. but if not, do it! ;)

I'm overdosing on your series in order to catch up. Fascinating to watch how you plan and layout on the fly. Was chuckling at you tying yourself in knots trying to sort out the bus depot! So similar to situations I've found myself in during gameplay. Love the balance between gameplay and running commentary which is not intrusive- so many other you tubers are nearly impossible to watch/listen to for anything more than 5 minutes due to their "hey I'm a crazy funny frills' awesome dude" act. At last someone with some intelligence who is articulate and can communicate clearly in the english language without resorting to a series of soundbites and cliches! Keep up the great work.

With your transit station, my first thought was to have the bus output be a 6-lane one-way, rather than separate 2-lane one-ways and then setup your bus routes so that the buses choose which lane of the 6-lane to use depending on where they are going. With the 6-lane you would have three bus routes turning left, and 3 bus routes turning right, so all it'd take is some minor planning to make sure they go the direction they need to go without any lane changing once they hit the main road network. It'd create a cleaner outflow (one intersection as opposed to three. The current outflow of three one-ways end up with a single left and single right turn on each of the three outflows, and of course the stop and go of having a number of extra intersections. The only other change I might do with such a setup is to instead have the raised pedestrian paths slope down on one side, and place the ground level part closest to where the people get on or off the buses. While I doubt the people necessarily care that they have to walk a few more cells to get to the pedestrian walkways, my own experience as a transit user is such that I didn't like it when the bus stopped at a stop that had me walk further than I needed to to get to the stairs ;)

Ha, the whole time watching the series, it plagues my mind to mention that (checked to see if anyone else said it, didn't find it), if you look from the office zone area, and the triangle shore line, the roads make an almost lizard like shape. The small park areas being either the eyes, or random scales. Lel, might be my extremely strange imagination, I see things in almost everything.

+ASTZDomidragon Well, the more Road connections you have the more coverage your services have. That's one thing, I guess. There are of course other benefits with dense roads.
@Treviisolion9 жыл бұрын
+Atomic Eagle Though you can make intersections that won't slow down traffic which is the problem with being too grid like, you just get a bunch of stoplights everywhere. But eliminating left turns (or right turns if people drive on the left side of the road) eliminates a lot of stoplights and can allow dense traffic to move quickly while still having fairly dense roads.
@Vorexia9 жыл бұрын
Trevyn Case Well, that is true indeed. But in the most situations, the dense roads aren't packed with traffic jams anyways, neither are they busy. Although the quickest way to work (Office, Commercial, Industry, City Service) would be dipped with people transporting materials, going to work, grocery shopping, etc.

You have three different roads leading from your bus terminal to your boulevard right now, and while it looks good, it's probably not the best idea. Only so many buses will be using those roads while that boulevard is going to be very congested already due to it's position. It might make more sense for all three bus roads to converge into a single road before it merges with the boulevard, so as to create only one intersection with street lights instead of three. Just a thought. Great video. I freaking hate your talent for making roads look good.
@MightyHeracross9 жыл бұрын
Awesome bus depot! You should make it the asset editor so you can use it in other parts of your region because i assume 1 depot will not be large enough. Also, from what I could tell, it seems you may have forgotten about the ramp into the industrial area and how it goes before a ramp in your interchange, meaning that people on the certain ramp from the interchange will not be able to get into the industrial area :)

damn it really shows you how far has this game gotten with all the newer quality of life mods like traffic manager, networks, move it, road anarchy etc. and all the new dlc's. I pirated the game and didnt have all the dlc's and any mods. so i bought the game at long last and it was probably one of the best games i bought for the money. really like to hear the thought process before building a road instead of being like me in my first city and just build a big grid and build outwards off one avenue untill disaster strikes and you have to redo your literal whole city to fix traffic problems xD

Most city traffic problems arise from Industrial traffic, ie Big Trucks. You probably won't have too many traffic problems since you aren't using traditional industrial zones, eliminating big truck traffic. jumping straight to Offices is a great way to reduce traffic problems. Well done.

You really ought to add more exits on the motorway, distributing the load over multiple points reduces the congestion much better. Ideally you want to get as much of the traffic on motorways for as long as possible.
@jcm26069 жыл бұрын
Flux, may already know but the reason why traffic is not using new roads isn't due to the fact that you have more residents living up the top of your city. In SimCity, at least to my knowledge traffic is dynamic, it calculates the best route to take on-the-fly so when you add a new road in they switch immediately to attempt to use that one if it's a better option. C:S on the other hand is different in that residents have their destination set when they spawn, so you have to wait for new traffic to spawn to see how a new road changes your city's traffic.

Those overhead walkways at the bus terminal make no sense! The passengers can simply walk around the buses on the ground. They don't need to climb up tall ramps to go over them. Even if there was a need for overhead walkways, you only need one ramp to get up and down for each bus. Most buses only have a door at the front. What would make sense would be to have a roof over the passenger waiting areas so they don't get soaked waiting in the rain for their ride. Also, benches would be nice.

You do realize that every city needs both white collar and blue collar jobs right? Not everyone is going to get a higher education and get an office job and even if they did, your city needs to get its factory made goods from somewhere. Look at the bars on the bottom of the screen, your people want factories! Your commercial gets its goods from factories and if there aren't enough people will begin to leave. I know you want a completely green city, but news flash, that model doesn't exist as of right now. Unless you want everyone living in huts, your city has to produce pollution.
@nickamerakee6139 жыл бұрын
Mutant Gumdropz Fun fact, that model is supported, but you need to actually design it to be supported in that way. What I mean is if you want a green city, you need to focus on imports for your commercial goods. Train stations, highways, and cargo docks are great ways to accomplish this. I don't believe airports bring in cargo yet, though I hope that's added to the game at some point.
@autumn_breeze6169 жыл бұрын
Nick Goatmin I didn't know Cities Skylines had an import system because everyone else I've seen has to build factories to supply their commercial. If there is then let me know! (Not being snarky if it sounds that way)
@nickamerakee6139 жыл бұрын
It's arguably easier to simply create your own supply via industry, but if you have enough places for goods to be imported it's entirely possible to dezone any polluting industrial. If you play w/o unlimited funds then it's realistic to start with industry but it's possible to phase it out by increasing your imports. It may create a bit of traffic at first, due to trucks delivering exports alongside the imports, but as either you begin dezoning or as people leave industrial jobs for office jobs, that traffic will lessen. That's how it's worked in my experience, at least.
@autumn_breeze6169 жыл бұрын
Nick Goatmin Okay, thanks for clarifying that, I didn't think the game actually simulated that but I don't own it yet so good to know!
