Cities Skylines | Hydro Electric Power Plant (Dam) Tutorial

Welcome to this Cities Skylines Tutorial
The Hydroelectric power plant in Cities Skylines is quite cool but has quite a few problems that it can cause in your city,
When placing the dam down you need plan where you are going to place it as it can cause droughts down stream where the river will dry out and it can cause floods upstream where the water will build up behind the dam wall.
In this tutorial skotyyy will show you all the effects of these and how you can plant to avoid them

for everyone who actually want to build a dam : it's suppose to be builded where the stream is strong but the most important part is that the highest part of the dam is supposed to be overflowed. So you need to build it lower than the level of the two shores of the river, but higher than the level of the water. It doesnt matter if sometimes water overflow it after the first one, because if you build it correctly, water wont go on your land. That's why you have to choose a place where the river is very deep and the shore very high. (i try to explain it as clearly as possible but sorry english isnt my strong language)

This really wasnt helpful... you told us how NOT to build the dam, but not how to actually build one that functions. Ive been sitting in my city for 2 years time waiting for the dam to work, and its still got nothing even though the reservoir side is full, it's not dropping any water to produce power. I dont know why and it's really frustrating. I need to see how to build one from the start that is functioning. No one on KZbin seems to be able to explain this in a video and it's really frustrating

If it is not overflowing after 2 years then the water level above the dam probably is not high enough. It has to reach the lip of the dam and usually it will start leaking over the dam before it begins to work.

If a low spot is spilling water, use landscape tool to raise ground level.

I put dams in, water flow stops and dam never fills high enough to produce power.

Dams ar so frustrating. I waited for an eternity and tried to fiddle around with the bottom of the stream and the sea to get more water speed, energy etc. but it has all been to no avail!

Dams in this game are just too damn unpredictable and finicky to use, really. Bridges are pretty enough as is

You probably have some ground pollution or water pollution. Check if your people are living in old industrial areas. Or if your water is being pulled from polluted area. Water towers can’t be on polluted ground. Sewage can’t be dumped up stream from pumps. Also sound is a big one. Check to see your noise pollution.

@@ws8046 What you said, make sure water uptake is above sewage dump. When you place uptakes/dumps, game conveniently indicates water flow direction. If any.
