I have a idea: in the Netherlands (but also in other countries) you have touristic railways, there are old steam locomotives riding on and they are in the more beautiful parts of the country. My idea was that you can do that also on rhinestone island: create a small railway going to the beach and the mountains and through a forest etc. Like this comment if it is a good idea.

Cargo planes does not use jetways :) There is only crew of 2-5 and they use classic stairs car. If you want to add even more realism to your airport layout.

I recently went to Orlando and their airport actually has a little creek running between the taxiway and the runway. It had some bigger grass and smaller plants around it too so it isn't 100% unrealistic to have some grass there in-game.

Fluxtrance, If you can find a mangrove asset in the workshop, mangrove swamps near the coastline would fit the tropical theme really well. Also, you should try fitting some more rural areas in the mountains. Some little sugarcane and coffee farms :D

There are already a few - the prison is on its own separate island and there are a few that are behind the Casino city area, but it would be interesting to see what he could do with some extra islands.

Flux, the lights you were throwing down next to the runways are Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPIs) which help pilots tell if they're on the correct glideslope to land so you should only have one of them (ideally ~300m from the threshold) otherwise your pilots are going to get confused! (Aviation geek, runway lights are a pet peeve off mine) but other than that I'm loving how this airport is looking!

You only need one approach light per runway (in each direction) for the type you are using :) Also I would suggest looking at the San Francisco International Airport for the runways to help base how they are placed into the water, also at the Honolulu International airport for the tropical part. Also runways are set into something called "the prevailing winds" so you will usually see a lot of runways facing one direction then a few facing into different directions that strong winds will also from. You see runways offset by 90 degrees when there is no usual direction that the winds come from

Catching up with your series- such an inspirational player. Great to see the game played with such creative flair. Pleased to see that you have finally managed to control your OCD obsession with cramming every vacant space with foliage. This helps you create greater balance and realism in your city design layout. Every city has large areas of open unadulterated lawn/grassland as a counterpoint to the dense planting of shrubs and trees. The green spaces help define a city and give it character- just as important as the architectural style and unique buildings and iconic landmarks. Impressive eye for detail too. Big fan!

Just a correction: You want headwind because it gives you the highest possible airspeed, allowing you to reduce your ground speed. This way you get as much lift as possible (important if you need to touch and go) but your ground speed is low enough that you dont overshoot the runway. And the direction of the runways has more to do with the local weather. Heathrow for example has two runways pointing in somewhat the same direction because the wind almost always comes from the same general direction. But Schipol (Amsterdam Netherlands) has winds that comes from more directions, so has runways facing multiple directions (believe it has 8-10 runways, but may be wrong)

the reason that planes land in a headwind is because the takeoff/landing speed is based on the airspeed not the ground speed, this means that if you have a 20mph headwind than you will touch the ground 40mph slower than if you have a tail wind, the airspeed is the same in both of these circumstances

Great video, I love the airport! Just want to point out that office space is very abundant and common next to airports. You said you would like to put some very rural neighborhoods in the general area (on the opposite side of the highway I think?) in my opinion office space would look much better as it would be a much less drastic change from the dense airport filled with nothing but concrete. I noticed almost no demand for industrial, so it may be a problem if you decide to take my advice. Perhaps work on other parts of the city until the demand increases? It's entirely up to you, but I feel it would look much better with an office jungle then a rural residential group of loose neighborhoods. :)

Amazing work. Such a huge project! One suggestion and two (polite) requests; it seems to me the ocean waves would cause lots of damage to the bank/beach... Have you considered adding some reinforcement? Not rocks or a wall, but I know there a few things like man-made concrete tetrapods... Or perhaps a 'dredging' ship that can rebuild the failing bank. As for requests, any thoughts on the island's government buildings, e.g. courthouse, tax office, federal bank/mint, federal investigations, capital building, federal monument, etc (I admit it's been quite awhile since I've watched the beginning of the series, maybe you touched on this in the past)? And I assume Gov. Flux is tired of being homeless, he needs himself a nice big estate! Keep up the amazing work. Game on!!

I can understand how you really want the airport to feel tropical with the foliage on the outskirts of the runways, I just find it super hard to believe in its realism. In my humble opinion I would replace all the green with concrete (maybe you can decorate it with little storage and/or maintenance facility places), and make seawalls instead of a beach. Also, instead of placing that little residential area next to the airport, and I know it goes against everything that Rhinestone Island is, but I would use that area as an industrial one. Strictoaster's current series does a very good job at making the industrial area blend with the city (including great seawalls).

Just a suggestion, but why not add a lighthouse on an island not too far from the airport? Surely a set of islands like that would be a danger to shipping and require one? Not meaning to nag or anything, it's your video and your style. ;) Really enjoy your videos, keep doing what your doing!

awesome video...and as always, great design and thought put into makin your great city! only one thing i noticed (and i didn't notice it until the very end of your video) - one of your runways faces downtown. with only a few neighborhoods in between the airport and downtown, there's no way skyscrapers would be that high in reality (see San Diego or San Jose), even though planes can safely maneouver around or above them. of course, this is a game, and your airport and downtown are already fantastic works of art!

Hey Fluxtrance. I really like your videoes, and I have commented on them before. Anyway, here is a just a small piece of info regarding foliage at airports. You correctly mention to risk of FOD (foreign object damage) to the jet engines, as brances etc. could be sucked in. However, there is another reason also... well almost. Foliage attracts birds, birds are bad for jet engines... mmmkay?! Yeah an engine can digest a bird and still function (but at reduced efficiency, due to bend/broken compressor blades). These damages to the engines are not huge, but they build up, and engines are incredibly expensive.... like out of this world expensive. So yeah, thats why you dont see alot of vegetation at airports.

I hope that maybe on the emptier rural half of the island you can incorporate some banana/coffee/pineapple or other tropical farms. Also, behind the large mountains on the back coast maybe you could have some dirt roads with little surfer shacks along the coast. Just an idea ;)

Something I would add to the airport would be an airforce base. It’s common in some airports like Belfast International and Chiang Mai airport. They have fighter jets and helicopters and a few trucks. It’s something different and cool

When you do your farmland on Rhinestone, use tropical farms like mangoes, bananas, sugarcane, cocoa and coffee beans, etc. Also could you go back to the city and add like old builds such as colonial-aged houses, statehouses, colonial forts. This can give the island some history too it. Even add abandoned temples and ruins for your parks.

great job flux! But the only thing that bugged me is the highway tunnel underneath the airport, it's a little bit unrealistic. I think it will be better to make it going up turn around the airport area as it also become the border between the airport and the outside area. Don't forget to build more commercial area and more hotels around the airport area. Thank You!

Hello Flux I love your videos you are really great in this game you have awesome ideas and you have the gift to do all these things beautiful. I wanted to ask you about short video (no timelapse please) about 5minutes where you would explain all the road/rail/sidewalk paths. This is the part in game I struggle with the most. Just 5 minutes in one video related to whole airport (including the storage houses etc.) connections including pedestrian paths. I know that you said it in the end of this video but please focus on all the roads and sidewalks connections. Thank you very much :) Btw. I tried to build multiple CNIT buildings to duplicate your airport and I could not build more than one.. Is there any mod which allows build buildings multiple times same building?

I wish you could have General Aviation. Like have a small airport with Cessna 150, 172, 206s, Beechcraft kings, and barons, Mooney Bravo, Maule Orions and piper J3 cubs, etc... I just think it'd be cool, especially in the more rural area.

You should maybe add Tour Bus an Taxi assets to the parking lots that you painted on, I think it would look fitting to see the buses in the parking lot a long with taxis(a lot of drivers park at the airport during lunch/between driving).

did you leave a space for helicopter landing at the airport? And could i suggest that instead of putting the oak in the airport, where it would have been destroyed in the airport's construction (so wouldn't be moss covered), and instead move that whole installation to one of your trail lookouts, as a hidden gem of the jungle to climb to. There are a bunch of hiking routes in all sorts of places to get to a particularly special waterfall, or tree, or whatever. In that scenario it would make sense for it to be moss covered junglely. AND it would blend in, too. AND would give an excuse for interesting things at your trail ends than just lookouts and spas (i mean, really, how many spas does a city need?) That way, all the foliage at the airport is "young" and "artifical;", but still looks junglely, or whatever you want it to be. And the airport overall is NOT very friendly or catering to large wingspan planes! there is junk to run into everywhere! i guess no jumbojets landing here =P

If you can change the speed in the traffic mod you could slow the planes down so they use more of the runway making it a tad more realistic, if you haven't already. Great series keep it up!

This city is running into my pet peeve with this game: there is simply no way a nice, tropical island with a real city on it would not have a big marina with dozens if not hundreds of cruising sailboats in it. Those are in fact sort of the first things ones spots from airplanes when going to such places. And the boatyards and such would be a prop heaven. But alas, no sailboats in this game, or atleast none that I have been able to find.
