man this looks so organized, my cities I just slap a bunch of buildings together and throw down roads. My biggest accomplishment was when I upgraded an interchange to a small roundabout.

When I get home I'm setting fire to all my industrial zones and rebuilding them like this. It won't be perfect in vanilla but it will be a damn sight better than it is now. Easily the most efficient design I've seen.

I found a small innovation on this that worked really well. I tried the trick with the lane arrows to get the trucks to use only the center lanes, but many of them just ignored it. So I copied something I saw Fluxtrance do, and set a much slower speed limit for those outer lanes used for loading. That worked incredibly well.

@@David-Kynaston I don't doubt that it works, but there are junctions that could be improved. Just look at - weird shapes - dodgy lane mathematics - zebra crossings at ridiculous angles - zebra crossings where pedestrians shouldn't go - non-existent lines and other road markings - missing lane connectors Those are the issues I'd fix using those mods.

You apologise for the way your video might turn out and yet it's one of the most useful and well thought out videos I've seen for CS. And your plan for a workable industrial zone which has decent traffic flow is certainly one way of achieving it. It reminds me of the old TTD hack for getting multiple platform terminus stations to work properly, where you loop the trains round to the back of the station to reduce congestion. I've tried to do the same thing as this, but I've not tried blocking off the outside lanes yet, I'll have to give that a try. I'd also like to comment on the stations you've used here. One of the reasons you didn't mention is the train congestion: Having more than one station really helps with loading and unloading more efficiently (and I notice you use the same loop method for this as used in TTD as well). In fact, one of my biggest bugbears with CS is the inability to have a proper goods loading yard with multiple spurs for loading trains. I've seen multi platform mods for passenger stations, but I feel a proper goods yard would be a worthwhile addition to the game. But that's not your fault.

As Akruas stated, you can, in an odd way, build a real rail yard. When I build my yards, I put the terminals "inside" of my yard and then map out the tracks to blend in. You can corral the trains to switch around quite a bit inside the yard to get to the terminal. Container yards and box yards look different, but you can move an appropriate looking building on top of the vanilla yard to make it look different.

Oh man! Thank you SOOO much for posting this! I've been pulling my hair out all week trying to sort out the huge traffic jam that had become my highway. I'd been doing little drawings of flow charts on pieces of paper and then making them in my city (120000 pop) and each time it just moved the problem somewhere else. Grrr! I'd tried a petal design, an inner and outer roundabout design, and a fountain design amongst many others. But I've incorporated your system now (with two outer roads and the double ramp design at the end of each lane) and now everything is flowing real smooth. There's one hot spot by one of my stations but that'll get fixed once i open another outward train track. And I'm actually playing the vanilla game so haven't used traffic mods or owt like that. Thanks again. You've saved my sanity!! 😍

I wish I would have seen this video and commented a few months ago. The way to get the cargo terminals not to back up is to have the road go straight into the terminal and then stop at the terminal. That way the cars drive off the end of the road straight into the cargo bay without turning. There is no blocking traffic then. You can even do it at a 45 degree angle and have a one way road. That way they pull straight in or with a slight curve instead of the slow 90 degree turn
