Great video I have that watch and several Casio ProTreks, one word of caution, you can magnify a device with a magnet and you will then need to de-magnatize the device so be careful with that large magnet. Clawson is 663 ft Elevation and the Citizen will need to be calibrated before use the compass as well as the altimeter.

Actually I didn't realize that magnet was there until I started recording. lol I have demagnetizers too. It just threw me off at the beginning so I thought I would mention magnets in the video. Thanks

I looked at this watch in an Airport and was close to buying it, because it's a beautiful looking watch. Later I bought a Casio Pro Trek which does have a rotating bezel. It's the PRW3500Y model. It's been a few years now and the watch has been really good, No problems whatsoever. However, I still think I should have bought the Citizen Altichron. I am also interested in the brand new Apple Watch Ultra. That said, I have not been a fan of Smart Watches because of battery life. The Apple Ultra is the first time I have seriously considred one. Not sure what I will do?

The Solar Casios are great watches. If I were to go Adventure Hiking I would pick a Casio (many options to choose from) vs The Citizen. The Citizen though has the hour/minute hands which I like but it's a much larger watch. You mentioned the battery life of a Smart Watch, which is a major problem for long expeditions. Only Series 2 (added GPS and water resistance from 2016) and above would be an option. But I'm not sure on the battery life of those older models especially used. I've stayed away from them even though they'd be good for athletics too.

@@gottalovetheknowledge4749 It's likely I'll just keep going with the Casio. I'm happy with it, but analogue watches have a certain timeless classic style to them, but unless I was specifically looking for a new watch, I should not waste money on a second watch for the sake of style. Before the Casio, I had a Nike divers watch, that lasted 10 years. It was really unusual and had a bubble window on the top, which I think was to help the compass to operate on a level angle. Apart from all the features, in terms of style with the Casio, I like the orange band and I like the pink ring inside the adjustable bevel. Still quite a stylish watch.

For watch lovers, smart watches are worth nothing. A pointless device that constantly runs out of battery! I bought serial 9 and sold it.

I actually ended up buying a Garmin Instinct 2 Solar. I only need to charge it once a month. I skipped Apple for the reason you mentioned. Even the Ultra has a low battery life. Not the Garmin and if I had spent extra and gone for something like a Garmin Enduro, I could have got an always on display colour screen with a long battery life. @@ibrahimkaratas6088

I had a Casio. Cheaper and more features but it died about 18 months after I purchased it. Who can fix it? No one! Hopefully I will have better luck with this watch.

I bought this watch for my husband a few years ago. The crystal got 3 scratches on it. Very weak for a watch that is made of outdoors. So I bought him a better watch this Christmas
@gottalovetheknowledge47492 жыл бұрын
The crystal is so large and totally flat I wouldn't use it while shoveling and other harder labor tasks. Just have to be careful but I see your point. I try to use my Casio doing outdoor work too. It's one of those "nifty" watches in my collection.

You can never go wrong with Casio for a watch that will take abuse

@@gottalovetheknowledge4749 Hi, sorry getting back months later. I ended up getting him a vaer. They're a micro company in Calif. Two sapphires. It is a dive watch.

I'm gonna be a downer here, but this watch is actually a downgrade compared to its previous version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n16TmmqigMqKj6c It has the same movement, but an extra rotating inner bezel, superior lume and a titanium case. IMHO the design is much better too, the current one lacks all character.
@gottalovetheknowledge4749 Жыл бұрын
Not a downer. Never said it was the best thing since sliced bread. It does what it is supposed to, albeit large in size and it's powered by light. When hiking a real compass is far more easy to use but having it on a watch is pretty kewl, although the Casios offer a better value with all of their offerings.

6.25 inch wrist? Ouch. You need to be wearing/buying 38mm or smaller watches. That great watch looks like a clock on your wrist.
@gottalovetheknowledge47492 жыл бұрын
I have no real issues with the Altichron. The lugs are curved down, no real sharp edges, so fits the wrist easily with the rubber strap vs check out the latest Longines HydroConquest video I have. The Altichron has the compass and altimeter features found on some Casios and Timex. Although Seiko has some nice compass watches. I used to have a Suunto years ago, now that was a BIG watch. They all seem to be fairly large with Compass/Altimeter etc, all an option versus wearing a real compass around one's neck for easy access. My vintage 30-35mm watches truthfully are now too small for my older eyes. I can barely wind my manual 30s anymore as the crown is so itty bitty for my fingers nowadays ... so small does no good for me.

You are wrong. The outer markings are NOT in the hundreds but in the tens. You are giving erroneous information on the video.
@gottalovetheknowledge47492 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you are referencing. The compass has dots at each 5 degrees; marked at each 30, 60, E, 120, 150, S, 210, 240, W, 300, 330 then the "N" emblem. The inside of that is marked 100, 200, 300, 400 etc for the Altimeter (for the US version in feet - the metric one is different). Inside of that is the seconds indicators. So maybe I misspoke about something, or something was misunderstood, etc. Putting these together people do make misstatements, errors happen and wasn't on purpose.
