It's typical Citreon such an unusual design but so simple yet it works

Rather than cut through the middle of the can, I used a flap disc on the welds of one end. Also, I used castor oil on reassembly then watched the burton video instructing to use tons of grease. Oh well. Satisfying when it's all together again. I also found after setting the ride height initially the front donut compressed and I had to re-do the ride height. Still, silky smooth and rust free now.

Woke up at 3am and checked for anything new.......fantastic rebuild. I must remember to say " Harvesting" when saving my old car.

I just love seeing the 2CV/AZU suspension - so simple but so clever.

In the early 90s we drove from the UK to Spain in an old Citroen GSA. On the way back in the Pyrenees the rear subframe snapped so we had to abandon the car and get a hire car. Problem was we couldn't take it to the UK so we had to unload all the camping gear and luggage and carry it onto the ferry. A very nice man in a Renault 25 offered to take us and our stuff across. Lovely guy and a massive and very comfortable car!

I thought I saw a Rover convertible, but Seppo can’t be ready for that much head gasket pain!

Yes Seppo a little Hemp oil in the heater vents on a cold winters day with the heater whacked up full blast does wonders for the occupants and turns a fractious journey into a FAR OUT, LAIDBACK, HIPPIE destination by the time you arrive , peace , love & understanding all around MAN 😂

I am rebuilding a modern 2cv6 chassis and find your work inspiring. I wasn't going to do the cans but have now decided I must inspect the interior of them ,thanks Seppo.🙂

Having subscribed for the Princess and now watching Citroens the Rover Convertible is intriguing.

Hi Seppo, good to see you back with tools in your hands. Many thanks from UK.

I used Castrol R in my suspension pots! Only because I had it sitting unused in my garage though. Always enjoy seeing 2CV derivatives being worked on - especially by someone who knows the vehicle, but I chuckled when you tried to weld the susp. pot without having the earth connected!!! Who hasn’t been there? Or forgotten to turn on the gas before pulling the trigger.. Les 🇬🇧

I remember pouring castor oil into my suspension cylinders, could only get it in big glass bottles from the chemists.

First comment: Just want to say thank you for a great channel. In the older days I hated the strange, french cars, but you have made me reconsider. That "new" Renault 25 seems really like a great bargain. Congrat with that

It's possible that the stuff in the old cans was actually originally oil, but over the decades it had gone rancid and probably polymerised into a thick gloopy goo that resembled grease, after all, the service info on 2CV suspension says to add oil, but never mentions removing the old oil, so presumably just turns into that thick guck... :P
@SeasideGarageАй бұрын
Pretty sure its grease... but you never know! I made sure to make pin holes in my welds (ehm.. ) So It drains over time.... problem solved!
@borisborisov195Ай бұрын
So this is suspension that you actually build up yourself using welder :)

Now that you have the spring part solved, what about the damper? Are going to restore the original inertia and friction dampers or can you retrofit newer models dampers with more current technology as in newer models with recently made parts? AS much as I like keep it original and functional, I think is important for some parts materials than can fail due to metal fatigue or decades of use to be changed no matter what. Also stopping rust from spreading (taht chemical reaction is not stopping forever just because you added some layer of grease between the parts, it would be nice to see the body immersed on a molasses pool (if the right fungus is present fermentation will bring citric acid and your parts become clean and whitened, add some orthophosporic acid and rust will be stopped completely). Or you may want to test the different carbonated acid and sweets beverages using E330 and E338 and get your own recipe... is far more slower than the concentrated products but it works...

Rover 216 fra ca 1995. Det er den årgang med Honda motoren. Nok en D16 eller deres 2.0 fra accorden
