Hi Oliver, I realise this was from 3 years ago, but I have a suggestion that might help someone in an emergency to keep their car going until new brushes can be sought. The condition you describe is because there is insufficient tension on the brush to keep it in good enough contact with the commutator. This is because the spring bottoms out on the brush holder. In a pinch, you can slip some packing material between the end of the spring and the end of the brush next to the brush lead. This will lift the spring off the brush holder and reapply pressure to the brush, holding it onto the commutator properly. It's not a long term solution, but will get you charging again until new brushes can be fitted...

Very well done, Oliver! Very similar is repairing a starter motor, which some people still rather hit with a hammer than get it repaired :)

Why not clean the commutator while you are there?

What makes the dynamo 6 or 12 volt? Is it the regulator? Is it possible to convert a 6 volt dynamo to a 12 volt by simply changing the regulator?
@OliverPickard6 ай бұрын
No it's the way the dynamo is made

Thinking about buying a 2CV, but not sure what to look out for, where to go. Would you recommend buying a rebuilt 2CV from the likes of 2CV City in Bradford or The 2CV Shop in Wiltshire?

I will include a link to my buyers guide but as a general rule original parts and cars tend to be better quality although I don't have any experience with UK specialists other than Ecas parts who are extremely honest and helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKfJhJWiaKyhg6c

Do you have any tips on what you should check or do before going on a roadtrip with a 2cv? I am planning to go to schotland this summer (I live in the Netherlands) and I do not want to be stranded there haha.

I'd give it a good service and good visual check (things like the suspension knife edges) and put together a little tool kit with some basic spares

Excellent video again. All very good things to know about, even if you don't have a dynamo. One question you may have been asked before: why haven't you painted the headlight backs, is it simply because you like the patina?

Jolene came to me with the wrong headlights from a later model there's a whole story with these I made a video called tractor headlights

Much different than anything I've seen. American English we have generators pre mid to early '60's and modern alternators. Brass for the nuts is a good choice as they are less likely to corrode.
