Watching your video gave me enough confidence to change points on my 2cv. Been hammering fan for 30 minutes and it still doesn't want to come off. :(

Glad you found it helpful. The fan can still be a bit tricky to remove, especially if it hasn't been off in a while, but my method has always worked eventually. The key is to put a dab of grease on the taper before putting the fan back on and to keep servicing the car regularly, which means taking the fan off quite a bit. Good luck with the Mehari!

Great video!Very helpful indeed!But shouldnt there be some grease on the fibre part on the breaker point?Just to avoid an unnecessary wear..

Hello Jack, that was very nice how you showed that. But I couldn't see anything essential in your video. You only adjusted one cylinder with the ignition timing setting. However, it is essential to check the other cylinder. Why is that? Because the cam is not one hundred per cent the same on both sides, and this can result in differences of several teeth on the flywheel (early or late ignition). This means that either your adjusted cylinder is in the correct position, but the other cylinder has early or late ignition. That is exactly the point. Early ignition is a criminal offence, as it results in a loss of power due to the explosion in the cylinder, which wants to send the piston down before it reaches the top. So turn the flywheel once and check the second cylinder. Make a mark on the flywheel and the engine housing when you have inserted the pin through the engine into the flywheel disc. Don't forget to remove the pin (6 or 8 mm) again. In the case of pre-ignition, the hole in the flywheel (you should also mark this in colour so that you can see it better) is still to the left of the marking on the engine. If the light comes on at the exact moment you insert the pin into the engine, it is 100 % accurate. If the hole in the flywheel passes the mark on the engine, you have late ignition. One cylinder on the right, the other on late, that would be best. Greetings from the ‘2CV and Sherpa Club from Wesel. And for @b888cky, you can always get the fan impeller off by aligning the two crank mounts downwards/upwards and repeatedly tapping the 14 mm spanner (bone) firmly with a hammer and turning the fan 180 degrees at short intervals and tapping it again.

Man nice video! Let me ask you something:I got a 2cv and none of the spark plugs are firing..the problem could be the points box and the condenser?

What a really Great Video. I am here in San Antonio Texas and I have a 2CV that won't idle correctly. The cr dies out unless I leave the Choke pulled out. So I was wondering if maybe the points might be bad. I found your video and really learned a lot. Thank You

Great video, love the disarming honesty! Only one question/mild criticism - In which direction did you make the correction by one tooth to compensate for modern petrol? This was not quite clear to me.
@jozg4410 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video - the 'disarming honesty' approach saves on editing time! You have to set the timing point slightly later than specified to run on modern petrol - set it so the official timing mark on the flywheel is slightly to the right of the mark on the housing, usually 1 or 1.5 teeth

Wonderful video. . Question... does anyone have the specs on the bolt which holds the fan on? My mechanic took mine off and misplaced it! Thanks!

01:45 .... " Firing at the same time ??? ..are you sure ?
@jozg444 жыл бұрын
Yep. Both plugs fire at the same time, so on one cylinder the plug will fire at the top of the compression stroke (as normal) and the other will fire at the top of the exhaust stroke, when the cylinder is 'empty' so nothing happens. Quite common on simple two-cylinder engines. The alternative would be to have a distributor or twin coils/magnetos.

better you install a electronic ignition (DGnition or likes) in place of the old contact system: much more reliable and powerfull...

you remove the bolt in the middle of the fan, take a small pipe that fits into that hole. Put it in and tap on the end with a hammer (not too strong to brake it but not to weak either...) dothis in every direction alternating -> left.. right...up...down...etcetc you get the point that should work
