I did mine 3 weeks ago for mot , the difference that having a nice balanced handbrake makes is amazing . [ when I was in doing the cylinders I did shoes , adjusters and all the other bits too }

Thanks for another great how to mate. Got a bizarre issue with mine, don't know if you can help. Rear is binding on one side, but bizarre part is it binds once I tighten the wheel bolts. In fact, it binds even when I tighten the holding screw! I've swapped the drum with the other side, but same issue so it isn't the drum. Wheel cylinder seems good. Shoes look fine, checked all springs are on correctly. Tried taking handbrake cable off to see if that makes a difference, but doesn't. Bit stumped 😂 Any advice?

Hopefully I can save you a headache. Just re-checked it. One piston on the wheel cylinder moves freely with finger pressure, other side is solid and won't even move with grips on it. I know I'm a novice but that doesn't seem right lol. Also might explain why wheel was only binding for about 180 degrees? So this video is exactly what I should be doing after all 💯 Out of curiosity... is there any point in trying to refurb wheel cylinders?

@@kurisurs yea that could deffo be your issue. No point in refurbishing them. It can be done but they are so cheap it’s not worth the hassle.

Rounded the nut on mine. Managed to free the cylinder though, so i didn't bother changing it

@@mickeytheviewmoo get a bit of heat on it and some grips. Try to tighten it a tiny bit before undoing it, it should come out.

​@@mickeytheviewmoosame with mine a few weeks ago also. I tried heat, releasing spray etc, even used a brake pipe flare spanner, but still rounded. Mine is an 07 plate and still original cylinders from new. So like you with the heat managed to free off the one seized piston in the cylinder. These cars sure do rust at the back end and everything seizes. Was going to try filing the rounded brake pipe nut down to 9mm and try again, but didn't bother as I freed the seized piston.

I sprayed the cylinder with some ceramic grease and fingers crossed it releases every time now.

Sad my car failed the mot because of that cylinder and a brake line being rusty, turns out I think they need to replace they whole line as it's rusty and the cylinder , they quoted me £ 460 which tbh not sure if it was worth for a 2009 C1 but I need the car and not planning on buying any other car

@@stuartswindellcampoy8483 the whole line is unlikely to be rusty. They usually just rust at certain sections. You can cut the bad bit out and join a new piece in. I’d try a different garage. I have a video idea. Have you ever tried liqui moly ceratec? It lowers friction in the engine and thus better fuel economy and power. I have never seen it being tested on smaller engines like the citybug. I think the difference might actually be noticeable.

Another excellent video. 👍 Did mine the other week. As you showed, pretty simple. I complicated mine by replacing the shoes at the same time, which lead to a whole afternoon of fuckery with the adjuster on one side. Nice to see that you can change the cylinder without disturbing the shoes if they don’t need changing. Not sure that would have occurred to me. The only thing I’d add is that the adjusters are fiddly, awkward, seizure prone pieces of shit. 😂
