It's a real trick.....often times a pry bar ( or ANYTHING ELSE !) that is used SLIPS and the brake shoe "horns" spring forward and tear up the dust boot...or maybe even more damage to the cylinder. Time for another cylinder !!!.....even though you attempted to install a new one !!!

This video to me is about more than just car maintenance !!!! I’m imagining this lady with other problems in her life, like her eviction coming next week if she doesn’t make it to work this week. I’m would Imagine most people would get a total break job,,, IF THEY HAD THE CASH !!!! Sometimes we’re put in situations where we must drive an unsafe car not by choice. I truly understand the mechanic must follow protocol and maybe have her sign something for his protection . But here’s an opportunity for the mechanic to show a bit of humanity without taking the burden upon him/ or herself. First of all the R B you’re not obligated to express any kind of empathy towards this lady but to leave it open as if to say,,, NOT GETTING THESE Repaire’s is STUPID !! I know you didn’t say that RB . I’m just saying! I see all the 🙏 🙏 and thank god’s in the comments, but how many of us miss the real story here. Maybe he could be looking out for someone changing their brakes prematurely and told he’d save them for her . There are a number of things that could help people besides just praying for them. “ The problem with the world is , thinking that somebody else is going to change it “ Help this lady R B , her next accident might be running into your car.

When I put break fluid in i see it come out from the driver side back wheel.. today i put the car in reverse and it took off super fast. Pedal went straight to the floor. Hit the emergency break and that didn't do anything, not even slow me down!! I had to put the car in park while reversing super fast ... How do i know what needs to be fixed???? A couple months back a friend fixed the driver side back shoe and drum and the cylinder.. But after two days break fluid started leaking the same way again. 🥺🥺🥺🥺 Also I do know that he didn't bleed the breaks after fixing the cylinder.. 😭 what should I do? Replace cylinder again? First the biggest problem is the tendency to play with the wheel cylinders pistons by squeezing on the piston pucks when you remove the cylinder from the package with your fingers. Yes its neat to feel the pistons move but you could be doing more harm than good. This action creates the major source of leaks in new wheel cylinders. When the wheel cylinders are compressed with no fluid inside the seal cups have a tendency to disslodge or be displaced from their bore seat especially the smaller cup into the larger bore opening. Once the sealing cup has been displaced it allows fluid to flow around the seal cup and escape thru the clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall. The brake actually works to a degree but the cylinder leaks when the excess fluid finally fills the exterior moisture shield cup. What is the cure? The cure is simple, Don't play with the cylinders when you open the box. But as a precaution and since most of you are somewhat handy with tools and understand mechanical things here are some pointers. When you are replacing wheel cylinders one of the first things you should do after opening the box is to pop the cylinder moisture covers, pop the piston pucks and check the seal cup seats remembering or drawing a diagram of how they were disassembled.. While you have the cylinder opened up lube the seals and side walls with a very light coat of brake fluid and reassemble the parts in the order they were installed. Hint, as you are transitioning from one bore side to the opposite side fill the cavity with a small amount of brake fluid so there will be no air void between the bores. This also speeds up the bleeding process by removing the majority of trapped air. Finish reassembly and clean off all excess or spilled fluid. If you keep the bleeder valve closed no fluid will run out the nippple port and you then can assemble the line to the cylinder and install the shoes. After installing the shoes and the drums you can now go thru the normal brake bleeding process.

I changed my rear breaks and drum. And in the process for some reason one side of the rubber boot on the cylinder fell out with a spring attachment to it. I attempted to put it back together and when all said and done. The break pedal is spongy???

U don’t have to drain it that would add air just replace it as it drips then bleed it

You can use a hose clamp to keep the rest of the fluid from coming out while changing it. You'll still need to add brake fluid to the system and bleed the air out of it.

Good video. Brake fluid from my 1982 F150 leaks only from the front part of the reservoir. I was told by my buddy that it means that the leak is on my front wheels. Is he right?
@RBTheMechanic
@RBTheMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if he’s correct u got to physically check it cuz the reservoir had 2 section so he’s just being too book smart even me as mechanic for 12 year wouldn’t think that but he has good theory since they divide front and back. Now new cars it’s one right one left so just check to see where the leak is

What do you mean you don’t feel comfortable doing the job if you see something that you don’t agree with as a mechanic you should give this customer advice possibly maybe even recommend them changing from drum to disc brakes may be give them the advice about possibly purchasing the conversion kit, so the next time you don’t have to deal with this
