Citroen DS3,C3,Pug 208 screen washers not working? quick fault fix guide

Very common problem on lots of Citroen,Peugeot and Renault cars is that after a frost the screen washers stop working,this is a five mins fix that can be done by anyone.
This video guide shows you step by step what to do.
Hopefully this is of some help someone.

minus 8 for a few days and my pump gave up and motorway traffic kicked up huge amounts of salt and covered my vision. i watched your video and three minutes later the pump was back in the game

Just a tip, wrap up the fuse box with a bin liner because water gets in the fuse box and it's not whether it might go, it will go. And they're not cheap to replace and fit. For the price of a carrier bag/black sack it could save you a lot of money. Your welcome. Ps Thanks for the video PJ top man 😎👍🏼

Thank you so much!!! :3 had this issue today ,, saw this video and went along to halfords bought 2 10 amp fuses and installed them took less than 10 mins 5 of that was getting the fuse out with me eyebrow tweesers haha, but yes this worked i can 100% validate this advice,, it was my windshiled squirters that stopped working thought they were just frozen but wasnt .. for clarificcation i have the citreon ds3

Hiya, Mine kept on blowing so I am thinking there could be moisture on the motor plug. When topping up my wiper fluid some spilled over, it has before, but I am assuming some must have gone over the plug. Typically it is Aug 8th and it's raining!!! Groan. Good old Cornish weather, lol. So can't check this hypothesis at the moment. Or.. could be a dodgy motor which means the driver-side wheel needs to come off and the cover plate above it off too to access the wiper fluid motor. Not a happy bunny right before we go away!!

Check both power and earth are good to the pump, if so your new pump is faulty. If no power or bad earth look into possible stalk control broken.

Some have them clipped to the under side of the fuse box lid but this seems sporadic at best.

It has a dead short so it’s either the pump failed, the stalk failed or a wire has earthed.

Sounds like the little nozzel that the water comes out of is blocked, try unblocking it with a pin.

If it keeps blowing fuses then most likely it's a burnt out washer pump. The pump is on the side of the washer bottle and will need to be replaced. Failing that it's possible the switch that you press has failed but that is very rare.

Would need testing to see if the motor is getting power. Could be either the steering washer control faulty or the washer pump faulty, most common is the little pump.

@@poetica1985 30mins job and the part can be got with ease second hand of EBay or a breakers. But make sure to check that is the fault before spending.

@@stephenwhiddett Needs to be checked for power reaching the pump and earth still good. If the above is ok then possibly a faulty column control or pump failure. (Pump fail is more common of the two)

Then the most common problem is the pump has worn out.

From that you have narrowed the problem down to either the steering column switch being faulty or a bad earth connection at the pump end. if you get a length of wire and put it directly to the pump power from the battery it should power the pump up and so would tell you if the earth is ok or not.

@@PJsprojects my partner tried wire from battery to pump, its dead. Already changed bsm fuse box after apparently water pump caused issues in bsm unit. Before changing bsm, washer pump did work, then since fitting replacement bsm unit and new pump, first worked for few minutes but was working rear washer when should of been front screen, then stopped completely. Ready to put a 🔥 to 🚙 please can anyone help.

@@sharons651 Sounds like pipes are reversed on pump, the pump works one way for the front, then for the rear the motor is reversed and a slide in the pump moves across and fluid is distributed to the back.

Should be the same problem yes. It’s a case of don’t press the washers when the car is frozen to avoid this being a repeat problem.
