Great video Dave - thanks for posting - well explained and the work done safely. I have done this exact same maintenance on my 2020 Boxer 2 weeks ago. I don't think the 15Nm torque technique for the centre adjuster works very well - I found it better to adjust so the handbrake is tight at 5 to 6 clicks then check the wheels are free turning when handbrake is off. Even though the wheels were turning ok one side on mine was dragging a touch and getting hot following a test drive. Took one wheel bolt out and slackened the star wheel 2 teeth and it was then ok - handbrake still on tight at 6 clicks. I have seen several YT vids where the centre adjuster was tightened but the wheels were not checked as free to rotate with handbrake off afterwards - risk of binding and overheating. I flushed the brake fluid all 4 wheels also.

Hi Jim. Thank you. These vans are not known for having a very efficient handbrake. I usually check and adjust before m.o.t. as that is a very common failure. Glad you got yours working ok. Yes it is important to check that the handbrake is not binding after adjustment. Thank's for watching. Dave.

Thank's for watching! If you have completely backed off the adjusters in the drum and slackened the adjuster on the handbrake cable, then the drum has probably seized on the hub. There should be some threaded holes in the drum, I think they are 8mm. You can put some bolts in these holes, tighten them against the hub and draw the drum off the hub. Hope this helps, Dave.

I used a slide hammer to get the hub off, 46mm nut AFAIR.

Hi Dave, very informative video. My issues is my handbrake won't release. I had a local mechanic look at the shoes and everything seemed OK. But now it's happening again. I was wondering is that pivot point with the 2 springs could be sticking and preventing it releasing?

Yes that's possible, also check that the equalizer were the cable adjuster is has not seized. Another common issue with these vans is that the handbrake cables fray were the cable enters the brake back plates. This will cause the cable to stick in its outer sleeve and cause the brakes to stick on. If your mechanic is happy that there is no issue with the brake shoes and they are adjusted correctly, no linkages are seized, then I would suspect the two handbrake cables are the issue. Good Luck. Thank's for watching. I'll bear that in mind but to be honest a bit of surface rust is probably the least of someones worries if they have an old Citroen:)
