Thank you for sharing your ideas. I have a 5 ft tall sweet grapefruit tree grown from air layering 4 yrs ago. It quit producing fruits after 2 years but it is very healthy green. Next to that tree about 6 ft apart, i have planted a meyer lemons tree grown from air layering. It is tremendously burst and overloaded with flowers and fruits but not too much leaf. I give the same amount of watering and liquid fertilizer every year. What went wrong?

Hi Steph! Absolutely. Your tree will more likely than not be perfectly fine. My father-in-laws variegated eureka lemon tree was full of scale this past year. I mean ever branch and limb was loaded. Make sure that you kill and remove all scale from the tree first thing (which Im sure you have already done anyway). I simply use a horticultural oil to kill them. First year I' battled poor drainage, where it almost died from root rot, - only had two leaves on it., took two years to recover. Third year I battled a leaf mold. Hi there, thank you for your great videos. Question: should I feed/fertilizemy potted meyer lemon tree during winter? I live in Kansas, so temps are low during winter so this tree will be inside the house all winter. My tree is flowering and the smell asking if is wonderful. I read somewhere that it might be a good idea since they closed constantly. Thanks for your help!
@kmartinc23 жыл бұрын
I've been feeding this tree monthly since August when I got it. I use organic Citrus fertilizer from Espoma plus some Alaskan liquid fish fertilizer and water. I think the tree really liked it!
@PlantFanatics3 жыл бұрын
If the tree is receiving large amounts of light, either from a southern window, or from sufficiently powerful artificial grow lights, then the answer is yes. The tree should continue to grow, fruit, and flower all winter long. Typically low humidity levels inside the house become the largest hurdle to overcome while indoors. The results of low humidity typically end in leaf drop or tip burn (neither of which will kill the tree). So if the tree continues to grow, flower, and fruit during the winter, then absolutely fertilize them. If you see leaf drop and stalled growth, then stop the fertilization. And I recommend you make sure the plants go almost to complete dryness in-between waterings when in an indoor environment. Citrus are prone to root rot while indoors.

@PlantFanatics2 жыл бұрын
It’s always necessary to be on a feeding schedule. It doesn’t matter whether you use a granular feed or a liquid feed. But generally I recommend an organic granular fertilizer once a month. The amount depends on the size of the tree and whether it’s in a pot or in the ground.

It sounds to me as though your tree simply needs more time to grow and develop. It will produce fruit for you soon, just give it a little more time. Give it 6-8 hours of full sun a day, adopt a regular feeding schedule during the spring and summer months, and allow the tree to come to nearly complete dryness between waterings. Do these things and you will have tons of fruit in no time!

Why are aphids attacking my Meyer dwarf lemon but not my dwarf Clementine Mandarin next to it? I am using DE and water jet from sprayer to get rid.
@PlantFanatics3 жыл бұрын
There are a multitude of reasons why aphids might attack one plant over another. Most of the time I've found it to be that one plant may be struggling with health issues more than the other. Of course thats not always the case. Sometimes its just simply that they haven't found their way to the other plant just yet. Either way its best to have a regular feeding schedule for your trees, and treat the pest issues as soon as you can. Those are both good methods of removal. I typically use a mixture of neem and dish soap in a spray bottle to get rid of them. I apply it for a series of 7 days to make sure the problem is fully resolved. Aphids are extremely common, and every gardener will deal with them multiple times throughout their gardening career. Thanks so much for the comment and support!!

A tree will drops its fruit when it knows it doesn’t have enough nutrients to grow said fruit. Are you on a consistent feeding schedule?

My mandarin tree is dropping 80% of its little fruits. 😭😭😭. My grapefruit tree is following its steps. ☹️☹️☹️. I hate how it’s been windy recently. My trees are in my backyard in an outdoor setting.

Where’s your feeding schedule? I don’t see it.

I feed my trees once a month with a balanced all purpose fertilizer once a month during the active growing season. 😀

I have little black ants that likes to crawl on my hibiscus and key lime tree …. Should I be concerned with the baby limes or anything else? No aphids infestation.

The reason I would take care of the ants is because the colony will get larger and larger. They’ll build homes inside the pots of your plants and soon you won’t be able to get near your plants without getting ants on you.

Yes, almost all of my citrus were filled with spider mites after a tree I bought from a nursery was infested. Easy to eliminate. Thanks for watching!

Solution For Dropping Fruits 😔?
@PlantFanatics Жыл бұрын
Fertilization schedule with a balanced all purpose fertilizer, correct temperature ranges being met, don’t overwater, and proper lighting conditions. Meet those requirements and your tree will thrive and give tons of fruit for years to come. 😀
