Great starter video. I’ve just pulled 1000 plus stink bugs from my 4 trees. Had a bumper crop last year and the stink bugs must have had a few party’s . Had to trim trees and after some advice from my local Bunnings I’m now going to suck them off trees with outdoor vacuum then spray them. Just to let you know the spray from stink bugs is an acid and can cause blistering and possibly blindness if it gets in your eyes. Take care.

Been checking on many videos about remedies on citrus plants pests till I came to your vlog. Mine is the leaf curl with silver coating underneath the leaf on new leaves mostly. I keep removing them but it still gets them. Thanks for the white solution tip. I am in the Philippines and its too hot now so l will do it when the sun sets. Will try on one citrus plant first and if it will not burn the leaves due to the extreme summer heat, will apply to all citrus plants. A big thanks.

Thank you. Sounds like Leaf Miner. If you can get the white oil under the leaves as well as on top it should stop the little fly from laying eggs and stop the grubs that cause the curl. Good luck.

@@ginamaxey9967 no because it was too hot and the leaves got scorched. After a month, my lemon plants have recovered and the miners gone. I kept on removing the affected leaves and it helps. The lemon plants are growing well now. However, one plant has aphids. As long as I regularly check on the plants, pests are under control.

Nice video! Just wanted to mention a horticultural soap is the way to go - has longer fatty acid chains. Also detergent and soap are different things - detergents are not generally good in the long run for plants. Just wanted to pass this info on to you as it looks like you love your garden. Keep up the good work ✌️

Hi Simon, where would you get horticultural soap from in Australia?
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 5 жыл бұрын
@@kelly5822 Most horticultural soaps that you can buy use petroleum based oils which work sure, but if you're environmentally conscious you might want to avoid them and use plant-based oils. Detergents are fine as it's a tiny amount and heavily diluted. You just need to be sure it's not a fancy one that has other things like bleach and degreasers in it. Horticultural Soap and White Oil are basically the same things at the end of the day. If you want to have a look, go to the pest control section of Bunnings and have a look a the things that control Aphids, if they don't contain pesticides, they are probably just oils. Have a look at the ingredients.

Hi Daniel, great first video. I haven't tried to make one yet. I have placed mulch (grass clippings & leafy branch chippings) around my drip line in spring to retain moisture for drier summer months. And I place the fertiliser amongst the wetted mulch to feed the tree. Of course, the nitrogen in grass clippings needs to be balanced with phosphorus & potassium, but also trace minerals zinc, copper, magnesium and boron. You can find citrus mixes, etc. But if you pool with other like minded people, you can mix your own to suit any visible deficiencies. It has taken many years to recognise deficiencies, but keep learning about macro- & micro-nutrients. A healthy tree is less susceptible to pests. Perhaps your navel sheds water and gets more air to the leaves that are more upright than others. Mine does and is healthier for it. They love a dead wood prune now and then to get the air through. Good work!
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, good tips. I did give them a feed at the end of the video and talked about pruning them to increase air flow. I intended to do a follow-up video about pruning and trace elements but never got to it.

As a pest control professional with 30 years experience this is a great idea. However I noted you mentioned the hand can sprayer previously had Round-up in it. For the sake of a non selective herbicide sterilent you should have an example of( PPE) Personal Protective Equipment.

@@markdrenan8481 That's not my point. The point is that he's demonstrating that it's OK to simply clean out equipment that contained a herbicide without concern for PPE. The minimal amount here is not the issue it's the frivolous attitude without forethought.

I'd be very careful to avoid using ANY glyphosate-containing products ANYWHERE. If you read the scientific literature, rather than the advertising literature, you begin to become more alarmed with the extensive toxicologic adverse effects happening with this chemical! Read the literature. Glyphosate replaces glycine in amino acid chains, leading to dysfunctional protein formation, which has lots of adverse effects potentials for physiologic systems. In other words buyer beware! Normally, this level of dilution might seem adequate, but avoid buying and using this chemical, it is a shortcut for gardening, but has hidden dangers at small levels IMHO.

You’re supposed to feed the trees around the drip line, not the bark of the tree and you’re always supposed to put an application oil on your trees in the evening when the sun is going down not in the morning.
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. You're mostly right. But it depends really, which I probably didn't explain very well in the video sorry. My trees were still small so applying it that close to the trunk was fine. Also the time of day depends on the day. I sprayed in the morning and it was ok because it wasn't a really hot day. The solution is also very diluted so even if it was hot, that small amount of oil isn't enough to harm the plant. The pests went away and the tree flourished so I must have done something right ;-) Thanks for watching.

Hi, I’ve been looking for something to control a pest that my orange 🍊 tree has which are black dots under the leaves that cause yellowing of them for this reason I’ve never harvested any oranges from it in years. My question is: wouldn’t the oil in the mix cause leaves to burn specially where I live in Las Vegas where is very hot and dry in the summer? Thanks!
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 3 жыл бұрын
There is a risk of that in very hot weather. But it is very diluted. Remember 1 part of oil to 20 parts water. I would suggest do it later in the evening when the direct sun is not on it. Give it the night to work. And if you're really worried about it you could hose it down in the morning. Might have to repeat a few times. Hope that helps. Let me know how you go.

@dannysdiyandgarden

The oil coats the insects and blocks their pores so they can't breathe which kills them. The detergent acts as an emulsifier, essentially thinning the oil and allowing it to mix with water for better coverage and effect. How that helps. Thanks for watching.

What We Do oh okay thanks mate. Just wondering Cos I may try the white oil on some veges. It’s working well so far keeping aphids off my roses and herbs etc. Man I’m so sick of pests, especially when ya neighbours don’t control the aphids etc on their roses and they are where they keep coming from. Never had aphids ever until neighbour bought roses. They seem to love my oregano, thyme and even my sage etc too. My mint cuttings had aphids too but strangely the mint outside even though it looks to be getting eaten a lot I can’t see any aphids. I don’t want them getting into my vege garden especially when spring hits. It’s winter here in Aus so the aphids outside are as bad atm but I even got them inside 🤦‍♀️ I stupidly brought some cuttings inside off my mint and other herbs and that’s all it took(before I knew I had aphids) then they took over my whole indoor garden in a very short time. I lost quite a few cuttings etc too Cos I didn’t see them in time.

I would dilute it a bit more than what I recommend in the video then test it on one. It should be ok.

Can this be used on all plant trees?
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 5 жыл бұрын
If there are sap sucking insects on the plant it can be used, just alter the dilution depending on how sensitive the plant is. For succulents it needs to be more diluted as well as for indoor plants.

Hi! How often should I do this? Thanks!
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 3 жыл бұрын
Just as often as you need. Keep an eye on things and as soon as you see bugs returning, treat them again.

Can I use this oil for a baby lime tree?
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. If its a young tree just try a more diluted mix first and test on a small area before spraying the whole tree.

Will this work with leaf miners
@dannysdiyandgarden
@dannysdiyandgarden 5 жыл бұрын
It's good for stopping the leaf minor moth laying eggs and therefore prevents them. It doesn't always get the ones that are already there as they live just below the leaf surface and are a bit more protected.
