Some very fine images. I agree wet pavements are so atmospheric.

Thanks, I waited for days to it be a dry evening after a very wet afternoon!

Absolutely superb, Alan, first off I thought you brave being out there in a city centre after dark setting up your tripod, so glad you found it enjoyable I would have been nervous. You images captured were great, and I liked the way you presented the shooting information in large bold text, really nice quality stuff, although I feel more relaxed when you are out in the quiet countryside knowing you are safe 😀 Cheers Alan, some great photography on show.

Sometimes Steve it's down to attitude when doing this kind of photography. I have never felt at risk or intimidated in our city, either day or night. Maybe that's me being naive though! Glad you liked the presentation and I will be out in the countryside again soon - but safe though? Wait n see!

Well done for fearlessly venturing into the wilds of Liverpool in the dark. You’re right, the final result is almost always less important than enjoying the experience of giving it a go!

Very enjoyable, loved the various edits of the same scene, and that HDR photo of the town hall was great, inspired by this video to get out there and give nighttime photography a go,thank you Alan.

That would have been a blast to join on. Always more fun in groups I'm sure. Great photos ! Im horrible with low light

Thanks Eric! Yes group outings can be a really enjoyable way to pick up tips, particularly on things like low-light photography; plus we could have had a beer afterwards!

I would call it a successful after dark photography cityscape excursion. All lovely images of the city at night but my favorite is 4:42 in. 👍🏼👍🏼💜💜👍🏼👍🏼

Yes TC I think it is my favourite as well, HDR edits do seem to work well with night shots.

the colours from your Olympus are wonderful Alan. I've been meaning to have a chat with you as I've had one (and a 60mm macro) in mind for a couple of months now and need that last little nudge over the edge to hit the buy button! many years ago I experimented with a star filter around Swansea Marina for night time shots as an alternative to f22 and the inherent diffraction. I'll have to dig out the old raw files, but from memory I think they were OK. anyway, I was thinking during your video how much large cities have changed in only a short period of time. The areas of my home that are now packed with trendy bars and venues were once very much no-go areas after dark for fear of getting beaten up and robbed, or meeting ladies of a certain profession!! I dare say Liverpool was the same 🙂

For sure Nick, Liverpool has changed significantly and I am proud to say that I have never felt uncomfortable or threatened doing night shots (rare) or street photos in general. As for those 'ladies of the night', I have yet to see signs of any (despite searching lol). You know my thoughts on M43 and I would imagine that an Olympus or OM Systems body teamed up with their 60mm macro would be a very capable combo. Had I been anything like as good as you with this close-up malarky, I would have bought the 60 over the 30mm. If you DO decide to get one, make sure you opt for a body that will allow in-body focus stacking maybe?
@duringthemeanwhilst3 ай бұрын
@@photographyforenjoyment thanks Alan. I'm looking at an E-M1 mark 2 (same as yours?). does that do in-body stacking or just bracketing?

Lovely images, I do like the different edits. The images remind me of the work of Matt Irwin, a very well known Melbourne photographer, you might want to check out his work.

Clare I have subscribed to Matt's channel since his early days! I was actually trying (and failing) to emulate his work that I admire so much. We have similar tastes obviously!

Great set of pictures Alan. Must try some night time photography, not living near to a big city has its drawbacks.

Thank you Martin! Isn't it funny, you maybe hanker to live in/near a city to do shots like this and I hanker to live closer to a very rural location!

I only live about an hour from the centre of London, but I can't find the enthusiasm to go and mingle with all those people. I did when I was younger but then I didn't have a camera.
