American here - I spent a few days in Liverpool a week ago & I am absolutely obsessed with the place, its history, its people (!!), the variation of architecture and landscape (half an hour rail ride to Formby will take you to the most beautiful dune beach, while a half hour ride in the other direction takes you to the most gorgeous Parisian park.) And do not even get me started on the food scene - I don’t think Liverpool’s capable of making bad food!! The youthful edge & playfulness give you such a cornucopia of unique activities to do, with the Baltic Triangle being some of my favorite bits of the city. I can’t wait to come back - it felt like my soul’s home. ❤

As someone who moved to Liverpool from the south about 15 years ago, I couldnt agree more with your lovely review. You are right about the sense of humour - Liverpudlians are quick-witted and creative. It's one of my favourite things (my wife is a Scouser). Even when they're seemingly insulting you, it's usually meant in an endearing way. I swear this city is one of the most unique places in the UK. By far the friendliest and passionate city in the country. You can have a chat with strangers in the street without them thinking it's weird. You can't do that in London. I will never ever live down south again. If you're ever thinking of moving here, or just visting, please do it. The people will be so welcoming. Was recently over in England and the vast majority of our tour group (30+ Australians) thought Liverpool was the best place we went to, and that included London. Mathew St on a Saturday night is absolutely insane, especially when the weather is warm. People are fantastic, there’s a lot going on in that area, plenty of live music. Albert Dock is also very nice and spent some time at Crosby Beach which is lovely again in warm weather, and of course visiting Anfield as a Liverpool supporter. Great city!

When we finished the fare, the price was around 5.60 pounds, he gave me a twenty. I started to calculate the change, but he said to keep it. I said is more than triple! What did he say? A little experiment I did this week, I was parked in a car in a major car park in the next big city to Liverpool, a city that will remain nameless, but, ahem ! You know who I mean. So I sat with the hood up, and had the jump leads hanging out the front for half an hour, the battery was flat, but I had a new one in the boot that I jumped started the car with. The people I was with had a one last errand to run, so I waited with my six-year-old nephew, and not once did a person ask if we needed help ? It annoyed me that much, I showed my brother the next day that Liverpool people wouldn't ignore someone in trouble, so I did the same thing, I sat in a Liverpool car park to see what the results would be, and do you know what happened ?, I got fed up with a ton of people asking me if I needed help, hahaha, It's the things like this that make me love my city.

Loved this, subscribed immediately! Liverpool grabs you by the proverbials and never lets go…it really is a unique place and your effervescent review really does hit home. I think it has it all, big city vibe, multicultural people and food, great nightlife, history (so much!!), amazing architecture (even after the Lutwaffe and town planners devastated much of it) and the best people. Recently moved to the Wirral from London. This review is lovely, Liverpool is hands down a brilliant city, absolutely love it here. Scousers are friendly, fun and kind, great sense of humour and the Mersey is something else, different ships everyday and a surprising amount of wildlife. People who slate it are generally regurgitating tedious stereotypes and don't have a clue what Merseyside is actually like.

@@samdaniels2 yes I was wondering if you can hear Welsh accent in Scouse (as well as Irish) eg Dock sounding like Dokh / Dogh rhyming with Scottish Loch.
@samdaniels2 Жыл бұрын
@@alicequayle4625 I honestly think the Irish aspect is somewhat overstated, the Irish have only been influencing Liverpool for a few hundred years whereas the Welsh have been influencing Liverpool for millennia. If you listen to most north Welsh accents(Wrexham, Bangor), they are often mistaken for being scousers. I’d say the scouse accent is primarily a mix between Mancunian and Welsh with a hint of Irish

I live in Formby, about 10 miles north of Liverpool. I was born here, lived in the USA from age 11 to 25 and then moved back 3 years ago. And my ancestors were some of the Irish fleeing the Great Famine, but they were so poor they could only afford to get as far away as Liverpool! You're spot on about how brutal Scouse humour can be! And you're also right about how Scousers have mellowed about football. Back before my time wearing the wrong kit in the wrong place could put you in danger, but now it'll just get you some good natured ribbing. I bleed Everton blue. Doing the Beatles tour is a definite must for any first time visitor to Liverpool. "Paddy's Wigwam" is an eyesore, but the Gothic cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Liverpool's safety has improved quite a bit lately, but there are still a few no-go areas such as Toxteth and parts of Fazakerley.
@Isochest Жыл бұрын
I drove round Liverpool a few nights ago with my sons. We went through Toxteth, then had a look at Sefton Park. Then we drove back towards A field to pass Liverpool FC ground and onwards to pass the Everton ground. Toxteth was like Longsight in Manchester used to be before it got Islamised. Some very colourful tattooed characters outside the pubs beer in one hand cigarette in the other
