Blessing's mom is talking from a good place but too much of everything is bad. Especially when your children tell you the truth and you insist they're lying. It makes them give up on opening up to you. My dad was basically the same way. Even worse he tended to believe others over us. We began to hide things from him and were more comfortable opening up to others. Now he's always complaining of how we'd rather talk to outsiders than he our dad. Parents should listen to their children. See how she was hiding common clothes from her mom. I vowed when I have kids to be more than a disciplinarian but also their closest friend. This movie reminded me of it again. Kids don't lie. Parents don't assume the worst. Some kids actually do what you accuse them of just to know they actually deserve the scolding when it comes. Their lack of wisdom pushes them to impulsively do it because you expect it of them and accuse them of it even when innocent and they feel they can't please you anyway. I admit Blessing is being a pain but parents should never go overboard. Kids have feelings too and you may inadvertently push them into what you're trying to protect them from. The moment your child starts keeping secrets from you because they fear your reaction, the end begins and they're exposed without knowing it.
