The library was a public library, built, owned and maintained by the government of Sri Lanka. Why in the world would the government burn a public library? The story about the govt burning the library is one of the most stupidest anti-Sinhalese propaganda Tamils made. Soon after the fire everybody in Jaffna knew that it was burnt by "the boys", i.e. the LTTE. But already the next day after the fire the Tamil politicians started claiming that it was the govt that stood behind the fire. Everybody knows how the LTTE and PLOTE and other Tamil groups were fighting among themselves and against the govt the months and weeks prior to the library fire and how many of the public buildings were set on fire by the rebels. But the Tamils claim that the library fire was done by the government and most ridiculously they say that it was to burn and destroy some Tamil history books. !!! We need a thorough international investigation about the fire. Tamils should stop telling these lies. Anyways what are these books which had evidence about Tamil history? Tamils and their dumb tales....

Established by Portuguese? NO! Jaffna was established by the Arya Chakravarthy Tamil Jaffna dynasty long before that in the 14th century. It was the Portuguese who killed them and destroyed the whole region, demolishing 500 huge temples to the ground and using it to build the fort. They wanted to convert the whole region into Catholics but that never happened.

Arya Chakravarti is not a proper dynasty at all. Nobody ever considered them royal nor did they ever claim that they were kings or royals. What you call Jaffna kingdom was not a proper kingdom, but a Pandyan occupation which started in the late 13th century (1284) and which morphed into a chiefdom with the fall of the Pandyans in the mid 14th century. Arya Chakravarti was a general of the Pandyan king Kulasekara and was sent here to invade the Sinhalese island in 1284. Arya Chakravarti created such destruction here and occupied the northern areas, and many Tamils were brought here subsequently to occupy the area. Without insulting and accusing the Sinhalese learn your history. One doesn't have to be very smart to understand that people speaking the same language as in Tamilnadu has come here and settled here in recent times.

Yalpanam is the corruption of the Sinhalese word Yapapatuna/Yapanaya . It is not an ancient word. Jaffna got this name after the Javanese occupation in the 13th century. If Yalpanam is an ancient name give us some references to when it was first used.

Yalpannam is the corrupted Tamil form of the original Sinhalese name Yapapatuna. Other common derivatives of Yapapatuna is Yapanaya/Japanaya and Yapane/Japane. The origin of this name is not at all ancient either. It came about in the 13th century when the Javanese Chandrabhanu invaded the Sinhalese island and occupied Jaffna area. If you think the Tamil name Yalpanam is an old name, give us some references to any ancient document which mentions Yalpanam.

In the name Kumara"thunka", we know kumaran/m is Tamil but many people don't know "thunka" is also Tamil. Changing to h or g is just a manipulation with time. Buddhism is an adapted version with slight variations from Tamil peoples' spiritual principles of life called "Aseevakam". Later on, the invading Aryans have done clever manipulation to Aseevakam to serve themselves. The relativly recent Sinhalese are a hybrid race mixed with people from North India, namely Aryans!

Many people don’t have the guts to admit that the Jaffna library burnt by the UNP government, which is always stand with western interests over SriLankan interest ( I mean Tamil, Muslims and Singhalese interests). This is a huge lie. The UNP was trying their best to get the votes in the District Development Council elections and the last thing they would do is to burn the public library or burn anything. And really, why in the world would the UNP want to do such a thing? Tamils started claiming that the government burnt it to teach the Tamils a lesson and destroy Tamil culture. But the library was just public library not a culturally important building at all. FYI the Indian intelligence agency RAW who were active in Sri Lanka at that time, also has confirmed that it was the LTTE who burnt the library. Months prior to the library fire, the different Tamil terrorist groups were fighting each other intensely and killing off rivals. LTTE opposed the District Development councils and killed many Tamil politicians too. The LTTE had gone on an arson spree and set fire to many public buildings for weeks in the run up to the elections. It was the LTTE who burnt the library.
