June 2022 A Las Vegas police detective facing assault charges turned himself in on Thursday after a warrant for his arrest was issued in connection with an off-duty road rage incident last month. By late Thursday afternoon, the detective, Colin Snyder, had been released from custody on his own recognizance, court records show. On May 19, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Snyder got into an altercation with a driver in a neighborhood about 12 miles northwest of the Strip. He faces two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon. In addition, Snyder faces one count of oppression under the color of office - a charge reserved for an act committed by a peace officer under the appearance of authority but exceeds such authority, according to state law.

On March 27, 2007, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was ordered to pay $1.48 million to settle a federal lawsuit alleging Las Vegas police gave special treatment to an officer's wife who hit and killed a bicyclist in 1994. The settlement ends 13 years of legal fighting that began shortly after Erin DeLew was killed while riding her bike home from a Summerlin supermarket. The driver, Janet Wagner, had been drinking alcohol that evening but was never charged, according to court documents. The lawsuit contended that her husband, Officer David Wagner, and his fellow officers knew she had been drinking but covered it up and delayed calling the Nevada Highway Patrol, which eventually took over the investigation.[13]

Press reports indicate that on May 7, 2009, Officer James Manor was driving his official vehicle at 109 miles per hour when a pick up truck attempted to make a left turn. In the collision with a pickup truck that followed, Officer Manor was killed. Sheriff Doug Gillespie said that Officer Manor and a car driven by another officer had their lights and sirens on as they sped through the intersection. This was later shown not to be the case.

On December 12, 2011, Officer Jesus Arevalo shot and killed Stanley Gibson in a standoff at an apartment complex. Gibson, a Gulf War veteran had reportedly suffered from psychological distress. He was circling an apartment complex when someone reportedly called in a report of a burglar. The police responded boxing in Gibson's vehicle and ordering him to come out. He did not. Police then planned to extract him from the SUV. The arrival of a senior officer, Lieutenant David Dockendorf, caused some confusion in how to proceed when Gibson gunned his vehicle's engine. In the confusion, Arevalo killed the unarmed man with four shots from an AR-15 assault rifle

The flex team should be made up of certified police officers from around the nation, 1 on every corner. There will be a few thousand. Its a temporary project to enforce the law strictly. You run it until there are no more offenders and/or the number of calls and reports stop. Break it into 20 or so districts with watch commanders supervising. Borrow the paddy wagons and get the jails and dockets ready with judges and clerks. Hire them temporary too. In 3 months go back to normal. Those cops can work in another city for 3 months. Keep it quiet. They become Paladin, this cops for hire, roaming the country from town to town, locking up a-holes wherever. First we need a politically connected restaurateur/chef to run the outfit.
