I was a Workshop Technician at 8Sqn, St. Athan and did some repair work on the wheels. Names were drawn out of a hat for a flight in her and the winner from our Flight gave his ticket to me because he didn’t want to go up! The weather turned nasty and we we’re told we couldn’t go up. A few months later, we were invited up to Coningsby for the flight. I feel so lucky to have flown in the Lancaster.

Stephen, my name is Howard Lee I was at the time of this video assistant chief engineer at Bae Chadderton and as you probably realise was interviewed for this documentary. I had design responsibility for numerous aircraft including the Lancaster. At the end of the re sparring task I was sent a copy of the video by the RAF (Phil Royal), which I unfortunately lost over the years. Since my retirement I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to find a copy, unsuccessfully until now. Therefore I would like to thank you for taking the trouble to load the video onto You Tube. All the best Howard Lee

Thank you for our comments Howard, we are glad it brought back good memories for you. The video belonged to my father in law who was in the RAF for 39 years, we kept all his videos and since his death have been trolling through his collection. He was stationed at RAF St Athan and I myself worked for the MOD at RAF St Athan 5 Squadron on the components.
