What part of MASSIVE backyard ice rink are people not understanding? This is not about meddling neighbours or the city dictating what one should or should not do in their own backyard. It is about cutting down a significant amount of older trees and paving over a large part of a heritage designated property. Imagine owning one of the surrounding properties that once enjoyed large trees that provided privacy and natural beauty, to then have to endure unsightly sports netting and the inevitable noise that goes with playing hockey and rink maintenance. If he wanted to do this on such a large scale, he should have moved to a more suitable location that does not encroach of the rights of others and/or decrease the resale value of their homes.

So your backyard grass is part of a heritage property or the building if you are saying the backyard grass is heritage what does heritage grass look like ? You talk about noise is there not noise when kids swim in pools. What noise does rink maintenance make? No noise complaint was ever filed. Who claims sports netting is unsightly? You? How do you know this hurts other resale value. How does it encroach on them? And as far as privacy they can pls t their own trees. All empty comments with no backing.

there used to be outdoor hockey rinks in most Toronto parks when i was growing up, i mostly played at Lawrence park at St. Leonards and Young St. We were healthy and excited to lace up and play, i feel sorry for kids today, nothing is free that is fun anymore.

Probably this homeowner could reach out to your local BAC bricklayers and concrete finishers union nearby and maybe they might be interested into the demolition work for training on tools within their school programs. I find the most disturbing part is that as a mother, I would rather know kids are safe playing hockey on solid ground on a private property rather than when I was growing up and spending all our time unsupervised on a pond to play ice hockey. Overall this is disturbing and heart wrenching and these lazy ignorant municipal officials should be encouraging kids exercising, athletics, health and safety. Also try promoting the idea and expensive self made facilities to help kids become more productive and active instead of stuck behind video games or on phones or committing crimes for fun

Yes I am "f"ing serious. This has been going on for decades. Many municipalities have been quietly rezoning properties from agricultural to environmentally protetected to fit the governments plan to meet whatever climate agenda accord that they have agreed to. They are not taking away your ability to live on the land you paid for but they are making it harder to sustain keeping by continually raising taxes on unimproved land and putting in environmental studies at your cost in the 10s of thousands of dollars in order to make any improvements which they will not approve because they have already changed the zoning. This is essentially land theft. There have been many town hall meetings over this around the province that have been gone no where.
