What most people don't realise is that Patras is indeed huge. The centre of the city(Agia Sofia to Agios Andreas), sure, you can walk around it, but in general the city has gone spreading and has its own vast sprawling suburbs towards every direction of the horizon. The realisation becomes apparent when you look at the city from up high and you see yourself that the city spreads across 25 kilometres of land. I've lived in most Greek cities, and the only one I found similar in distances and in suburban "sprawling" parameters to Patras , was Thessaloniki. Distances in those two cities are almost identical in most cases but Patras is a little less densely populated. Athens is a whole different beast and nothing in Greece comes close. Smaller cities than Patras are walkable in their entirety, even Larisa and Irakleion.
