Been looking for this video for about 20 years too. I accidentally recorder it on VHS when it originally aired and thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Whenever I felt bad or sad or depressed I would watch this and I couldn't help but feel happy. Over time the tape wore out and became unviewable and I spent years until now looking for this. Even after all these years, I can't help but smile and feel happy when I watch it. It's like a long lost friend. Thanks so much for the post!

The four members of The Tokens in this sketch are Dennis Marcellino, Norman Bergen, and 2 original members Phil & Mitch Margo. Actors include Julie Kavner and Dan Castellaneta who are the main voices of the Simpsons, which was created on this show. James L. Brooks produced, Sam Simon directed, Paula Abdul choreographed.

This sketch first aired on the Fox network October 11, 1987. In addition to Tracey's regulars, Julie Kavner and Dan Castellaneta, the featured 'strangers' are members of The Tokens, known for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight": Phil Margo and Mitch Margo (both original members), Norman Bergen, and Dennis Marcellino; also Rose Banks of Sly & The Family Stone and Alfie Silas. Written by Marc Flanagan, directed by Sam Simon, now known for The Simpsons.

Before this skit originally aired, my roommate and I were at a Renaissance Faire standing in one to order food. The staff was talking amongst themselves about a song about a lion, “the a wee ma way song”. My friend and I looked at each other and started to sing. The staff joined in, the customers in line joined in. It was just like this skit, only no one stole anything from anyone 😁. When we saw this skit on her show we couldn’t believe it.

some 15 years ago Tracey Ulman sat behind me at a broadway show. After the show, I was compelled to turn around and and tell her how much of a fan I was. The only thing I could think of was the lion sleeps tonight on a bus stop. Amid the confusion of a superstar in public, she said " that man has good taste'. Small encounter but meaningful to me..
