I came here to say exactly that! As an inexperienced solo street skater (I do a lot of London organised street skates, which are awesome, but those are hundreds of us, with Marshalls to lead the way, and guard us from traffic). I would love a video with mostly rear POV, preferably camera held high over you, and ideally either a live or post-dubbed commentary: how do you decide which routes, when to switch from pavement to road, which obstacles to avoid, jump or plough through Which junctions to take at speed, which ones to slow and stop? Was this a familiar route to you, so you knew every element and hazard, or was it virgin, and your decisions are wholly reactive? Keep up the great vids!

I dig multiple camera angles because it allows for better examination of skating techniques. These 360 action cams and slick software present completely new opportunities for creators.

Glad you like it! My problem is that I’m much more of a skater than a creator, lol. The 360 cams and how cool they are is a one of the reasons I’m here, honestly. This camera and my iPhone are all I’ve got. I need a good lav mic to do more audio recording for tutorials and stuff.

Please keep up the good work and I don't understand why the third-person perspective is so rare in skating videos. It looks awesome and the viewer can see more of the skater perspektive. Please, make it standard. I didn't know it befor but I need more fakie skating with the camera in the back, this was sweet!
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The from-behind perspective is just not as easy or simple. Holding a stick in front is much easier and gives better control than sticking it out behind you. It’s tough when you can’t tell exactly how far behind it is, or at which angle it is. I’ll still try to get more of this perspective though and work on it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks, I’m glad you liked the new perspective! I’m not sure about my stride. I’m sure I’m not doing a “proper” stride most of the time. I think I could be more efficient. Thanks! Haha, I’ll never understand how KZbin works. Besides my tutorials, my best performing videos don’t have any voiceover 🤷‍♂️ I don’t always know what to say for narrating flow style videos, so many of them are just these music video style ones. I have a lot of work to do in the video production side of things.

@@rerollinginline the 3 POVs here are brilliant, the music is perfect, so are the vibe and compositio ... No need for a voiceover. I believe if you colorgraded your videos a bit with your editing program (you can learn this on KZbin and it takes like 2 minutes to do) to suit the emotions you'd like to convey, your videos would look like straight out of a documentary or movie. Even if you decide not to, they are stunning, love them, keep it up

Thanks! I didn't expect to enjoy urban skating as much as I do. I learned to skate playing pickup roller hockey and stopped doing that at 16 years old. 22 years later at 38, I dug the hockey skates out to shoot around in rinks for some exercise. A couple months later I tried urban skating and completely fell in love. My one piece of advice is to make sure you can do it safely. I spent a lot of time and attention to honing my skills (like stopping techniques) before trying to skate in the city, which is inherently dangerous. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I learned it all as a kid, playing pickup street roller hockey. Stopped when I was 16 and didn't skate again until I was 38 and started this channel. I'm sure there are tutorial for technique, but I've never really been a big learner from tutorials. I like to just skate and experiment. I'll watch videos for general tips, but figure things out through trial-and-error mostly. As for how much you should skate - I don't know, lol. I'm not a trainer or anything, but I've always followed the rule of "listen to your body". If you don't think you're overdoing it, then you're probably not. If you feel like you need a break, or you're injuring yourself, you should probably ease off some.

@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
The skates in this video are FR1 Deluxe Intuition. Gear is listed in the description of the video. I don't have experience with the zoom 80 or either of the flying eagle models you mentioned, but they will all probably feel similar. They're all plastic hard shell urban skates with 4x80mm wheel setups. Are your powerslides the zooms or the zoom pro? I'm asking because the zoom pro will allow you to just buy a new frame for the same boot if you wanted to experiment with other setups, like 3 wheel skates for example. You'll need a trinity mount frame, like these: powerslide.com/collections/powerslide-urban-frames But if you have just the regular zooms, and the frame is riveted to the boot, you won't be able to only change the frame and wheels

These are "Triple 8 Kneesaver" but they're pretty low quality, if I'm being honest. I've had them slide down during falls and still got road rash. I wear them because they're slim. They have also protected me though. Just a risk I take. As you mention, it's hard to find protective knee pads that are also comfortable. Always a tradeoff between comfort/weight and protection.

Great work, so I have aquestion, is the 88a 110 mm wheels suitable for urban skating?
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, plenty of folks skate wheels that hard and big. I’ve personally never used harder than 86A, but I’ve got some 90A wheels delivering tomorrow because I’ve been wanting to try harder wheels to see what they’re like. Some folks recommend not using bigger wheels as a beginner, but I wouldn’t really know since I was a beginner as a kid and can’t really reference it.

Any advice to how to overcome the fear of falling ?
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
Not particularly, unfortunately. I learned to skate as a fearless kid. Luckily when I laced back up again at 38 years old, I seemed to have maintained my core abilities and balance, so I can't remember what it's like to be learning how to skate. Wear lots of protection is the obvious one. Some people recommend learning how to fall properly and trying it, but I've never spent time on that specifically. Hopefully over time you'll learn how to push yourself, but still be pretty safe and not put others at risk either if you're skating near people. I personally don't push myself as hard as I possibly could. I'm 40 now and I just want to enjoy myself. I still challenge myself, but not like I would have 20 years ago. Stay safe and happy skating!

Do you have recommendations for knee and head protection etc.? What do you use?
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
My helmet is the “Triple 8 Dual Certified Mips” and I don’t have any problems with it. I always wear it and it never bothers me. Hopefully I’ll never find out hot protective it is! I wear “Triple 8 Kneesaver” knee pads, but I can’t really recommend them. The build quality is cheap and they’re not very protective. I wear them because they’re lightweight. They have saved me from injury at times, but I’ve also had them slide down during a fall and I still got road rash. A risk I take by wearing them

It’s an Insta360 camera, so it’s partially how the lenses work and partially software while it’s recording. It never shows up in the footage so there’s nothing I do to remove it.

Another great video bruh! I'm going to assume you roll hydrogen wheels and how long does a set last you? I ordered a set this morning.
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the wheels in this video are Hydrogens. They're great wheels! It really depends on how much I'm skating and how much sliding I do, but I'd say my wheels last anywhere from 10 - 20 weeks on average.
@edgar1013
@edgar1013 2 жыл бұрын
@@rerollinginline Thanks for the info 10-20 weeks sounds more realistic than some people say they last a year... in what planet? unless they're just weekend warriors.
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 2 жыл бұрын
@@edgar1013 yeah I suppose a more accurate way to express it is hours rolled. I’d guess if I’m skating 5 times per week, I wouldn’t get much past 10 weeks or so on a set of wheels. I usually average around an hour per session, so maybe like 50 hours? Very rough estimate, of course.
