Utter nonsense. Obas of Benin = Agent of developmental retrogression, occultic confusion and perverse patriarchy. The Oba of Benin is an outdated, lawless and pagan man who does no useful work except to dress up in ridiculous clothes in the day and sleep with a harem of low-class women in the night. His harem even includes two sisters and in this modern days he does dog sacrifice and keeps slaves. I'm not from nigeria but I study 10 african languages. In my studies I found that Nigeria's history is older than Egypts. Linguistically igbo and yoruba languages are old . Many igbo and yoruba words are found in. english,Hawaiian,amharic. Most of all the egyptian names of gods and goddesses originate in nigerian linguistics. African linguistics are very organized.
@TheTrill3344 жыл бұрын
@Heru Behudety that's what I've been doing for the last 7 years. Trying to use african linguistics to unravel africas past. From my studies I recognized a commonality that is purely african. Linguistics is like a trail ,that is the best source of preserving oral history. Artifacts can only explain so much . But egyptologist are scared of touching African linguistics because they know it will only show an advanced system of languages in subsaharan africa. The main african languages that created kemetic languages are igbo,yoruban,zulu/shona/chichewa. Ethiopian languages are only made up of igbo words. What kemetic people did was preserve the oral history of africa to document the 300,000 years of african intellectual knowledge. Kemetic people relied only on african knowledge , that originated from the heavens . Linguistics can prove what pharaoh was from what tribe.

I was eager to hear comments about the Benin kingdom cause most that saw it were in awe. Would have really liked more on the Igbos too, and at least something on the Ijaws and more on the history of Lagos. I've been doing a bit of reading and different accounts say the Aworis were indigenous to Lagos and they weren't Yorubas, also that the Benin people got to Lagos first and also some Ijaws before Lagos was densely populated by Yorubas. But really good one
@hapexconsulting3789 Жыл бұрын
Your history is wrong. You need to go do more research. Sentiment is clouding you judgement. Your research is to prove Lagos is not a Yoruba land instead of researching with an open mind and logic. Firstly the people called Yoruba are heterogenous. It is a nation of different Nations with different cultures. It's not until 18th that these nations are group together and given that name. Now to Lagos, if you say Aworis are not Yorubas, the other Nations can be said not to be Yorubas. Question you should ask is what makes a nation Yoruba? Are Itsekiri Yorubas? Why or why not? Lagos state is a combination of towns and villages. Epe, the Lekkis, Ikorodu are all Ijebu towns. While Ikeja to Ojo axis are Awori. Badagary is Egun. Lagos Island which is called Eko or Isale eko is a settlement for many ethnicities which ranges from the Ijebus, The Ilajes, The Benins, The slave returness etc. Isale Eko has many quarters, one of them is Benin quarters, the slaves returnee too had their quaters, the Ilajes too, the Ijebus etc. Saying Benin founded Lagos state is lie from hell. Founding a quarter in Isale Eko doesn't you own Lagos state, other people founded quaters too. Just so you know, Oba of Eko is not the King of Lagos state but King of Lagos Island (where you have though quaters), and not a first class Oba. The Egun from Badagry to Benin Republic used to be under Oyo empire (note, not Yoruba empire), there was no word like Yoruba in 17th century. Origin of Yoruba might be from Hausa word Yeriba, because they referred to people in that axis as such. Yoruba is group of Nation from Ondo state bother (on paper, but some are in Delta and Edo state) all the way to Ghana. Ogun state enveloped Lagos. However, with you level of reason, none of these nations (the Ijebus of Epe, the Ilajes, the Awori, the Egbas) strolled to the neighboring town, which is a walking distance. Yoruba is just like Nigeria, a Nation with my ethnicities or nations. Just like someone saying Gbegiri with Amala is Yoruba food, technically they are right, but it is Oyo state or Oyo nation's food. Another thing to know is Lagos island is what is original name is Eko, the white called it Lagos, however the state is named after the quaters on the Island as Lagos state whick similar to naming Ondo state after Ondo town. Founding a quater in Ondo town doesn't mean you founded Ondo state. Same with Oyo state. Ondo state is a state of many Nations, same with Lagos state. A state is just a political geographical grouping of Nations or easy administration.

@@hapexconsulting3789 calm down. I've found that Awori are indeed a sub-group of the Yoruba, I know about the other settlers and the returnee slaves and the Edo and Nupe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, the truth is all that matters.

@@hapexconsulting3789 the only group I'm aware of with Yoruba ancestry in Delta is the Itsekiris' who emigrated from Ogun state and mixed with some locals in Delta to form a new tribe (fasinating history by the way). I'm not aware of the Yorubas in Edo. I wouldn't mind learning.

There is no Yoruba in Edo. Benin kingdom established Eko and was recognized as Benin kingdom territory till her annexation by British.

Great content Zeinab. But I think this documentary did a great injustice to the Igbos. They were grossly underreported. What about the archeological heritage of Awka, Nri and Nsukka? What about the history of the ancient Nri kingdom and many more?

loved the video but. I just wonder why are all the original artifacts in the British museums seems to me the British took all their history and culture and displayed it as there own. I truly hope these beautiful people can get all their artifacts back in their own country.

The Yorubas founded EKO, not LAGOS, it was originally called oko because the Aworis were farmers there.

People already live in the Eko that beni man said was founded. We should understand that every people will tell history in their own way or according to what they were told by their ancestors. The Eko that beni man talked about is Lagos Business District which is Idumota area the stool of one of the king. It is not entire Lagos of Today. There is no argument about that. When you snatch a piece of land you can call it by your name. just like Nigeria territory was snatched by the british and call it Nigeria, when Portuguese came they combined many communities and call it Lagos. Awori are one the First Yoruba to reach Lagos, so if Awori call it OKO it is understandable. All Lagos land as of today are owned and sold by the Yoruba people in Lagos, that tells that Beni king dont own any part of Lagos but they just install a king there in before the British arrived during conquest of communities. same way British install themselves to rule over Nigeria. This is history that some people will contest but I think it needs no argument. It is good that we have this type history that shape us and we should use it to foster unity and peace between ourselves.
