The most charismatic and likeable golf legend there’s ever been. He comes from humble beginnings and became one of the fiercest competitors, and best ball strikers in the game. Undoubtedly one of the all time greats of golf, and possibly, an even better human being. It would be a tremendous honour to meet this great champion. Love you Lee, may God bless you forever.

Definition of Class. In the third round of the 71 Open at Merion, Trevino was paired with Jim Simon who would shoot a 65. Trevino saw that Simon's ball was teed in front of the tee box. A two stroke penalty. Lee told him saying, "Son, This course is tough enough without incurring a two stroke penalty."

There are many great players today but none of them will stand the test of time to the likes of Palmer, Nicklaus, Player and Trevino in the 1960's through the 70's. Great ambassadors of golf these men were to the game. Their history will never again be repeated.

My favorite Trevino story was he liked to cut his own grass when he was home. One Saturday he was cutting grass and a big Cadillac pulled up and this lady rolled down her window and called him over. She asked how much the lady in the house paid him to cut her grass. Lee replied this lady let’s me sleep with her. The Cadillac rushed away.

I watched Lee at Torrent Pines when I lived in San Diego. The only golfer I could compare him with was another great golfer who was funny as hell also, Chi Chi Rodriguez. Both gave much more back to humanitarian causes than most but came from poor backgrounds and never forgot it and helped many many people in their life travels. God bless both you gentlemen. RESPECT TO YOU BOTH!!!

One of the four greatest strikers of the golf ball to this day. Hogan, Nelson, Snead and Trevino. He had such an unusual swing but it worked because his body rotation was so powerful it counteracted his strong grip. Probably the funniest man ever to play the game as well. Good to see that he has done so much for charity as well.

I won the All Marine Golf Championship in 1997 at Camp Pendleton, CA. It was one of his home courses during his time in the Marines. The course had a shrine dedicated to him in the clubhouse. Most people don't know this, but he never won the All Marine Championship because he never competed in it. Although he did win almost every other Armed Forces Tournament he ever competed in. But one thing I've always wanted to do if I ever get a chance to meet him is say, "Hey there Mr. Trevino. Did you know I've won the All Marine Golf Championship; something you never did during your time in the Corps?" But I'm sure his comeback would be, "Well son, that's great, but how many US Opens have you ever won?" 😁 Probably the only guy left on earth I really want to meet before I check out. Semper Fi Mr. Trevino.

Lee is absolutely correct that the 125 exemptions needs to be cut way back so that more young talent has a chance to play. If you are the new guy who comes in at 125 you dont get to play in many of the tournaments because there are less slots available than there are exemptions when you combine the 125 rule with the other non-125 related exemptions.

Couldn't be more wrong. When the light is on, Trevino is all show. When not, he is an ass. I used to caddie at the Golf club of GA when they had a Senior event and Trevino would come in every year and complain about everything. Player would go around and thank the staff. I also met Gary in 1990 on the way to the U.S. Open at Oak Hill and he couldn't of been nicer.

I'm sorry to hear that, I really am, but let me just suggest this to you. Lee was a very poor kid with nothing at all, even to the point of no water or electricity so it took time for him to start being a better human being I guess. My Dad, who I can assure you was no kind of engineer, always sliced. He had a set of Hogans. Speed slot Hogans. So one day, sitting on the tee of our number 8, a 215 yard par 3, waiting on the foursome in front of us, suddenly started mumbling to himself about how he could close the face of that driver, and suddenly brought his knee up and his Hogan driver down across it and gave a mighty tug about 10” above the hossel, then teed off straight as a string! He never sliced again. (And I’m pretty sure my Dad didn’t know Lee Trevino)

Masters is private owned facility. A few years ago, a spectator for some reason decided to take some sand from a bunker. He was fined $20,000 and charged for theft. It's a beautiful course an challenging, but has some sketchy history and very strict enforced rules.
