Fantastic. I mean stylistically it's very dated to watch now, but the content is just wonderful. The intervews with Alfie Fyles, Tip Anderson and Arnold Palmer were lovely. Great stuff. Thanks for uploading and sharing this.

Having the Merry Mex play golf has been a real boon to the great game. I have had the good fortune to have watched him play up close in 1972, 1984 , and 1985, and each time the memory sticks in my mind. All our heroes are fading away.

When Arnold Palmer started to play the British Open in 1960, he started the tradition for American and many other players from other countries to play the Open as well. Just like Arnold Palmer got the Senior Tour in the States moving when they changed the age to start playing to 50, when he turned 50, from 55. The King of Golf, without a doubt, and my hero.

Many thanks for a wonderful upload,Trevino was right about St. Andrews,it is a magical place and on my first visit as I stood on the 1st tee and thought about all those who had played there,the hairs stood up on the back of my neck! This should be made compulsory viewing for PGA Tour members,I think they could learn an enormous amount about respect and humility from watching Doug,Arnold,Tom and Lee.

My brother -in- law played Saint Andrews once in the late seventies. He is a pretty fine player and had an older fella - probably in his sixties at the time- ,caddying for him that day. The man carried his clubs. The man said that he had caddied for 50 years and at one time carried for Bobby Jones. They were playing the first hole and Ken hit a pretty good drive and asked the caddy to hand him a wedge for the approach shot. This fellow , in his fine Brogue accent said: 'Nie laddie.. hit this .' And handed him a 4 iron! Ken hit the ball 20 feet from the hole! Hard to get perspective in that course, apparently.

Lee is so entertaining and poignantly witty. Yet, he shows us he knows how to ask a question, and sit back and listen. As a side note, I see Lee as a strange mix of William Shatner and Tuco from the Good, Bad, Ugly. Great post.

Cool that they mention Dutch sailors, since the Dutch probably are the inventors of golf. The dunes on their cost look like a golf course too, and there was a game called goff or colf played with sticks and stones...way back in the day. So it may be that the Scots have copied them and then said "We've found it." And they have had more painters and power and red coats... Things that make you go Hmmmmmm...and Saint Andrews is the coolest course anywhere. Just watched the rest of it and Archie set the record straight...in Gullane. Thanks for the cool video...and Lee Trevino.

Watson is my golfing hero and i dont think Trevino gets the credit especially in the UK for being as good as he was. One of VERY few players since WW2 to win the Open in consecutive years. Even Jack didnt manage that
@sparticale19543 жыл бұрын
I predicted Watson later in his day to win the open. Sadly not to be, (ego denied) but enjoyed. .
@davidr59612 жыл бұрын
During the late 70's- early 80's , Watson was simply the best. Lee is a such an excellent interviewer; If not for these two greats, Jack might have won another five majors.
@dlamiss2 жыл бұрын
@@davidr5961 Well he would certainly have won at Turnberry in 77, the Masters 81 and US open in 82. Watson was probably the only golfer to consistantly beat Nicklaus although it ust be added Watson was almost 10 years younger
