As the sun finally burrows its way into bed, you leave Ji-eun's apartment, finding the empty street outside lost in mist. You know your way back home but you don't take it. Throughout the city you find velvet gardens draped in the colors of nearby shop windows and cafes. The tender stare of a stranger, their face illuminated by phone light from below and street lamps from above. The steps you take start to melt into one another, softly being enveloped by some unknown force that carries you forward. The night blooms further, the light becomes more and more neon. The skyline turns obsidian and the same old doubts replay in your head. But the momentum of something greater than yourself pushes you forward. Into and then back out of the lights of different entrances, effecting your egress into the night over and over again. You lose track of time, slipping into ash filled streets farther from the center of the city. Outskirts where all color has been lost save for the silver rain of moonlight. An empty palette, a lake of mercury and ash, obsidian and velvet. Would any life have been lived the same as yours, City Girl?

city girl, why do you look at the sky, at night when lights glow along streets flooded with people and bare flowerbeds - city girl, when will you realize that the city is not perfect for you, run away to a place that’s open - city girl, what are you thinking, staring off in the distance zoned out from busy streets and loud voices - city girl, who do you love in your dreams of happiness and purple skies, blue roads and cream stars - city girl, where do you want to go, perhaps a lonely beach or a vast forest or maybe back home - city girl, how do you spend your days, where the nights are gone and your dreams leave; you look lonely.

The scene is relaxing. It's night, yet the girl's clothes point out that it's not cold; you could think it's summer. You see her hair is waving, and suddenly you feel the wind blowing, touching your skin, in a clear-sky summer night. You stare at the girl, you notice she looks thoughtful, which makes your own thoughts stop, throw yourself into the scene, and start wandering from inside.

this album will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember listening to Ji-eun's Sunset a lot during a really rough patch of my life and to be honest it was an amazing help. then later on I discovered the whole album while playing a game called valheim. can you imagine the experience of hearing something so soothing to the ears while exploring the depths of a dark forest seeing deer scurry past you and sleeping by blue luminescent lakes. this is a time my heart will always remember and i will always have a special kind of spark when listening to this album. it has truly blessed me and every time i listen to it I feel as if I've been taken to a completely different world, far detached from this one. I recently started listening to lo-fi and found your music to be particularily good, I mean to be honest you're like the only channel that actually produces their own music which I very much appreciate. I also love the lo-fi comment sections, makes me feel like I'm part of a big family. I'm glad to have found a place I can chill at every night. I'm struggling *hard* with my depression and anxiety and I don't really know if this helps as much as it just fills the void of silence when I'm thinking to be honest. But I like to think it does. Anyways, thank you so much for existing city girl and please, don't stop what you're doing. Also you're *waaaay* underrated and I hope you grow bigger in the future. Nights pass too quickly for me now. Even in winter, even at my high latitude, night still feels like a fleeting, tenuous boundary between one day and the next. There's no magic in it anymore. But every now and then I can still catch that feeling, the bracing air, darkness, glow of streetlights and almost-quiet combining in just the right way... that's what this album reminds me of. A slightly younger me spent long nights simply experiencing the sleeping world and listening to this album; listening to it now is like catching that nighttime magic once again, just for a little while.

Every single time, this album seems to touch my heart, set a new wonder alight in my mind that I can't explain. I love it when music is so soothing you can wrap yourself up in it like a favourite blanket, even in the toughest of times, and it brings memories of when you first heard it and fell in love. Thank you for this, it's so remarkable that it brings us together and strikes a chord with so many people.

These songs are like the noises you hear while walking through the city centre. Like the funky song you hear while passing by a caffe, or the or an open window of a party. Maybe a song from a passing car. All of these kind of like a hallucination and played all together.

Ji-eun's Sunset might be the song that has transmited me the most in a long time, those first seconds with the summer night vibes along with that artwork just takes me straight there; I imagine a busy city resting in night, I have just left this girl I met not so long ago and as I walk away down the street thinking about nothing and everything she goes out just to look at the sky over the skyscrapers in this warm night thinking: maybe the same? Or maybe not, she has been so misterious I dont even know. Sorry for the long post, is just that everything here fits so well with my inside expectations that I had to write this, what a piece of art.

if there‘s a vinyl version of this i‘m totally gonna buy it
Since 2018 I have used this music to study and read. I never told you how cool it is. It also reminds me of the warm spring nights we lived in Buenos Aires in 2018. Gooooood timees from when I started university ♥

When I listen to vaporwave, lounge jazz,, and city pop, I get nostalgia for a 1980s that never was, a 2010s that never happened, and a 2060s that will never happen, a nighttime megalopolis of neon lights, signs in Asian languages, streets and alleys of seemingly seedy places and people but are simply those who want to help you relax and meditate, a place where you are some peculiar mix of lonely, content, and at peace in the vast multitude of similar people, something Night Valean but in an urban context, something like Night City or the Los Angeles of Blade Runner but twisted into a utopia of rest and serenity. Whether you party hard at the club or get a massage at the spa, this nocturnal utopia just resonates with you. It is home.

Hey, I've been a fan of yours for a while now and am feeling very inspired to write my own music. I know you use LogicPro X, but I am curious how you get such a clean sound and such a variety of instruments. How much of what you do is with MIDI and how much is done through actual recordings? I would love a little help. Keep making music!
@CityGirlMusic6 жыл бұрын
hey! so i use guitar/bass for most live stuff. the piano is almost always MIDI as well as the synths/electric keys. the drums are mix of recorded/MIDI. i like to mess around with the audio a lot and kind of "sample" my own recordings so i can make them sound unique. ultimately its texture and melody over anything else. creating a mood rather than a song is often a great starting point! good luck yo! ^w^

"Slipping into ash filled streets" is one of my favorites. i'm stressing about work and all i have to do is turn it on and close my eyes and all i feel is i'm walking through a empty street in NYC with pink tinted glasses and then the love of my life walks by me but all i could think of for the rest of the day is why they looked so sad and if i would ever see them again.

I just discovered you the other day and I gotta say... Magnificent. Your music puts me in a place that's relaxing and soothing yet also haunting and melancholic. Like there's a part of me that I'm missing or a place I'm ment to be and it's lost, yet not forgotten. Sorry for all the pretentious hipster jargon, I'm just saying the first thing that comes to mind. But your auditory art is wonderful and out of all the junk that KZbin shoves in my face, in glad it finally gave a gem.

"dope" is how I felt after listenting to the first track. Then I read what im guessing is the sypnosis of your album? Going into the second track I fell underneath the spell of that compelling force. The drive to live but to also remind yourself the sweet sentiment that life offers. Like this music. Stopping to smell the roses I guess. Im glad I paused for this, made me pause my life and feel really warm inside. Thanks
