It's not my job as a customer to pay the employees wages. The wealthy employer that owns these chain stores should be the ones paying their employees a proper wage .

@@kenlompart9905 That's not true at all, Ontario has a minimum wage for all workers including servers. Tips are in addition to that which is nonsensical.

What's truly nonsensical is that the kitchen staff (who arguably have a much harder job and do most of the work) don't receive a fair share of the tip pool or a decent salary. Why should the person bringing the food to a table make 2-3 times what the person making the food earns?

Wait staff gets paid less due to labor laws. Tips are supposed to cover the difference and keep service polite...
@JayDubbyaАй бұрын
@@zombiesithblade1579 Tipping originated with North American hotel owners in the 19th who wanted to subsidize the low wages they wanted to pay staff by putting the onus on customers. Today the practice has obviously spread to other industries but remains mostly in the service sector. There are plenty of other low paying jobs where tipping is not commonplace like in the fast food industry. The practice is so random and inconsistent and is not practiced throughout most of the rest of the world. Why are North American pizza delivery guys and baggage handlers deserving of tips but not the guy ringing up your Big Mac! Put the onus to pay proper wages on the owner not the customer!

Biggest issue is people even in restaurants expect a tip regardless of the service is good or bad. It’s expected and entitled and suggested tipping is annoying. Hard no in general. I am also against tipping in restaurants just because it is expected and based on your bill vs what work people do. Why should I pay $15+ just for someone to carry a plate of food from the kitchen to my table, it’s insane.

always used to dump the change for coffee shop purchases into the tip mug, which typically was around a 5-10% tip (on the non-tax amount). Went to a no-cash one the other day and the minimum suggested tip was 18% and that calculates on the total amount WITH TAX, which works out to something like a 33% tip under the old system. It’s almost like a trend that’s picked up by every fast food restaurant… I usually don’t tip but it’s annoying each time that option shows up
@pta3407Ай бұрын
If it's not a personalized service, you don't tip. Throwing some meat and cheese on a sandwich at Subway isn't a personalized service. If you're at a sit down restaurant and the server seats you, takes your order, brings your drinks and food, checks up on you once, takes your plates and brings the bill - thats not personalized service either, that is your basic function in your job, thus, you get your basic wage, no tip. If the server makes the service more personalized by being more attentive, helping with specialized requests, etc., then a good tip is acceptable. Also, basing tips on a percentage scale is completely flawed as well. If I order a meal and then double the price by ordering a simple glass of wine, therefore doubling the suggested tip, for no logical reason - that is just down right bizarre.

We find tips inappropriate everywhere… Not just the retail and fast food… You pay for your food, then government steals another 13%, you have to pay min 15% for the tip. If the food is worth $30, we pay $38.4. It is 28% extra… People have to wait up to 10 years to get %28 salary increase but they are expected to pay every time!

The issue here is you don’t have to tip at a salon or barber and if you do they should accept it. I was in the industry for years. You never tip a salon owner if they do your hair. If you offer to they should refuse it simply saying I own the business I don’t need tips. If an employee shampooed your hair the owner should say I don’t accept tips as this is my shop but do tip the shampoo person. If the person who did your hair rents a chair in the salon then you do tip. 15% on the before tax number would be appropriate. Or more if it so moves you.
