I just wish to add that we need updated self defense laws and not based on a couple of hundred years British Empire law. We need more legal protection than a whistle, personal alarm, key chains and flash lights. We need to be able to keep Mace or Pepper Sprays, Tasers and yes I know a lot of hard core British loyal Canadians will scold me when I say that I think we should be able to keep and bear firearms. It's not right that criminals can get away with having mortal weapons and we got squat.

All joking aside, I'm always skeptical and cautious about how to judge a situation like this when I don't see for myself what lead up to it. And KNOWING PERSONALLY the kind of corrupt policing from that exact division, trust me it isn't always as simple as the police/media make it sound. That part of town, you don't always want to rely on the police for help even if someone is a fanboy of the police. (that wasn't directed at you to be clear) I used to be like that. Then I grew up and saw alot of them for what they really are and how they are used by our governments and courts. And I've never actually been in trouble with them myself.

@@cliffm8112 The stats are correct. I can tell you exactly what the issue is... In the early 90s and 2000s, crime was ripe and confined to the 13 priority neighborhoods. I grew up in one of them, and always watched as people in other spots of the city felt safe and content because it never affected them. It seems as if people forgot that crime has mobility, and now that many of the priority neighborhoods have been gentrified and displaced many people, causing them to move to various different spots of the city, those who once felt safe, are now unfortunately experiencing the fear and terror, that those of us once had to deal with. Sadly, more and more Canadians do not support the police, or feel bad when one gets hurt. Maybe it has to do with how police treated the peaceful trucker convoy protestors in Ottawa, trampling them with horses, hitting them with Billy clubs and rifle butts, or the favoritism they show to different groups protesting, like the pro terrorist groups that were treated with kid gloves, coffee and donuts. Compare that to Canadians being rounded up and arrested for protesting the carbon tax or against the clot shot vaccine. I say this as someone who had a family member in law enforcement.

Mayor Chow is wrong... the state has a monopoly on violence so it is acceptable when done by police or the state. When we see policemen mistreating innocent protesters especially certified journalists on social media, creates a bad example and perhaps even hate and mistrust toward policemen especially in Toronto. Perhaps the accused was mentally deranged or just disgusted toward policemen for what he'd been seeing and reading in the news. I remember visiting Toronto in 1988. While window shopping on Young street, a young kid approached me and asked me for help because he was just robbed and had a bloody face. I noticed a policeman in uniform about 10 feet away from me inside a store. I decided to enter the store and tell the policeman what had happened with this kid. The policeman instead of investigating the situation, took me by the neck against the wall and told me to mind my own business. Afterward when I arrived home I called the Toronto chief of police to report the cop's behavior. His response was "I don't have time to listen to this" and he hung up. Nothing surprises me these days and for this reason, when I hear of a cop that's been injured or died in the line of duty, doesn't fizz on me one bit nor their family because the cop gets the treatment from the reputation he lived up to.
@PunchBuggyDreams6 ай бұрын

Gotta love how people are choosing to actually analyze the situation, rather than the whole 'Diversity strikes again' rhetoric. Geez, I wonder why that is??? On a less petty note, I'm a bit confused by the news report - was the initial call for a person in crisis, or was that call made after the officer was stabbed. Secondly, the girlfriend is making an excuse for a conscious action that her bf took. If the officer informed him of the fact that he had a warrant prior to grabbing him, you can't tell people, "oh, well you never know how people will react when you grab them, and I think the situation could've been handled better - he even apologized after he stabbed the officer"... I have to wonder if she would be this understanding or forgiving if she was on the receiving end of the stab, had it been her who grabbed him unannounced as she said (/s)

@@j.z.5678 no, wrong. Knives are not about protection. Knives are about being able to be a chef that travels with their knives, going backpacking/hiking or cycling on paths and trails. It is about fishing and literally any other reason you may need to cut something.. thinking knives are protection means you are part of the problem.

People get TIRED of being manhandled by Police and this is the outcome. Police Education on how to interact with variables and possible violent situations is what keeps police safe. This young and over zealous officer just learned the hard way that walking up to a suspect with a warrant and grabbing him is NOT how you approach or apprehend a person with a warrant or without a warrant.
