When your government commits you to a target without knowing whether it is attainable or how it will be attainable, and does so without adequately consulting key players, it is acting negligently. In addition, if the government doesn't adequately measure the efforts farmers actually take to reduce emissions, it is acting incompetently. Government workers will still collect a paycheck while causing farmers to pay the price with their livelihoods, and consumers to pay the price through inflated food costs. When the government doesn't have a proper context for the sacrifices Canadian farmers will make, it needs to be replaced. By context I mean China will go on polluting while Canadian farmers will see little improvement in the climate. In addition, we are seeing no reports about the Dutch protesters on CBC, our state-run media. So we know the Liberals are covering up the issue to avoid stoking similar protests at home.

If the world keeps up with compartmentalized legislations like this, we will soon see farming (and food supply) outsourced to China, then blame China for our problems. In the 70/80s, the EPA, in its good heart, introduced many environmental protection requirements for factories. The new laws are good for the environment. The laws are also important for health and future health costs. However, there was none to little assistance to the factories for transition to the new working conditions. As a result, many factories (in particular small foundries) had to shut down, and the products were outsourced overseas. I can see the same thing happening again.

@Heavy Metal Pulp The sad part about MSM, they tell you what they want you to hear. The good part about KZbin, you can get news and facts from other channels, especially unfiltered information from people at the ground level. Each to his own; I have no interest in converting you.

Will someone ask the question how this Dutch legislation that is purportedly to help fight climate change is going to get China to reduce its vast, world-leading amount of CO2 emissions? It's odd how every other nation is expected to take dramatic action to curtail climate change yet China can keep on going pumping out as much CO2 as it wants with no signs of slowing down.

💥💥💥That is the 64 billion dollar question! Any attempt to have a MEANINGFUL discussion of climate change goals, without the full COOPERATION of all global stakeholders, is a fools errand!

We are farmers in North America as well and I can tell you there is serious problems with the way Dutch farming practices are conducted. Dutch farmers spend enormous amount of money on new farm equipment, then they have to use farming practices to maximize profits in order to pay for it all. This sounds normal but they take it to another level, where small family farms that existed for generations are pushed out of business, they are extremely heavy into use of hazardous chemicals, they don't care what impact it has on environment, wildlife, or even nearby communities, as long as they make money. They destroyed millions of acres of wilderness and contaminated underground water tables. Not only that but their farming practices drive up prices of food, their operating costs are always way higher than conventional farming but they don't care because they just pass the costs onto consumers, since the increase of arrival of Dutch farmers in North America the food prices have been sky rocketing at an alarming rates, and so have cancer cases. Don't feel sorry for those guys, I really hope North American governments will go after them here too so they stop spreading cancer and start farming using safer practices.

We could get rid of animals, get rid of the problem and keep farmers doing what they're doing. Problem solved. Oh wait, but your taste buds are going to take a hit, so we just can't do it! So lets go the opposite direction, the food we need to stay alive and feed those animals overall. Yep, makes perfect sense, all over taste buds.
