A production of Eat Street Players, a Minneapolis community theatre.
William Finn (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and James Lapine's (Into the Woods) A New Brain!
When a neurotic, frustrated composer is confronted with a terminal illness, he must decide how to use what little time he may have left, and deal with the regrets of a life not fully lived.
While a written synopsis conveys heavy content matter, this is a laugh-out-loud, toe-tapping musical, teeming with both the "heart and music" for which the theme song calls.
A New Brain is a show about making the most out of life in the face of tragedy. When a neurotic, frustrated composer is confronted with a terminal illness, he must decide how to use what little time he may have left, and deal with the regrets of a life not fully lived.
The show is in fact composer William Finn’s semi-autobiographical account of his own battle for life when he was afflicted with a seemingly terminal illness. And while a written synopsis conveys heavy content matter, this is a laugh-out-loud, toe-tapping musical, teeming with both the "heart and music" for which the theme song calls. The central characters struggle come to terms with the threat of tragedy, and ultimately find salvation and a second chance in the healing power of art.
Featuring vocal arrangements by Jason Robert Brown (Songs For a New World, The Last Five Years), and combined with the brilliant score and lyrics by the aforementioned Messrs. Finn and Lapine, this show will satisfy all your theatrical cravings, musical, emotional, comedic and cathartic.
