Esoteric interpretation: Bill Burr's George is Kamala and the Democratic establishment. The other patients are the Democratic base. Bowen Yang's Samuel is Liz Cheney and moderate Republicans. George is too busy excusing Samuel's behavior and by doing so is neglecting the well-being of the other patients. There is no logical reason for him to favor Samuel over the four other people in the room. And the irony is that Kamala still lost anyways. (Samuel makes fun of George's wife exploding). All these post-election Bill Burr skits all have a common theme. They all seem to highlight the grievances of older white male Trump supporters, except for this one which is a potshot at white liberals.

as someone with severe PTSD, this is getting to the heart of what has happened in the past few years to the "mental health community." terms for severe symptoms have become co-opted to describe non-pathological experiences-- you can see this with people saying things like "if you were a big reader as a kid, that was dissociation." meanwhile, dissociation is not voluntary and looks more like walking out in traffic because you can't respond to your surroundings or remember where you are. it's become harder and harder for people like us who aren't veterans to find places to talk about what happened to us. and the worst part is, even spaces where we'd like to get on with our lives are filled with people who constantly use these terms for jokes or try to get you to laugh about what happened to you, because to them, trauma truly never gets worse than an amicable divorce or perhaps a fender bender.
@RavenLee-w7r10 күн бұрын
at first, i thought the sketch was going in the direction of demonstrating that kind of minimization. then when it seemed to fail to embrace that opportunity, i wondered if i’d read too much into it - especially when the comments seemed to be oblivious. . . maybe the sketch did address that, in a way more obtuse and broad than my own particular comedic aesthetic🤷 i doubt anyone feeling entitled to catastrophic language over minor inconveniences would honestly admit if it did🤷 … the validation here, in this comment, whether or not this was addressed in sketch, is appreciated. 👊💜✨

I always feel great sympathy for new cast members and hope the do well on the show. I think this might be the first time I've seen Jane Wikline and Emil Wakim do anything substantive. And to their credit, I think they have some potential if any of the writers give them anything. These were obviously, except for Padilla's part to a point, throw-away parts for Bowen and Bill Burr to shine. I think they did really well with what they were given. However, Jane Wickline reads lines like a person that has never read lines naturally in her life. Her NBC bio states: "Jane Wickline built her fanbase through videos posted on social media, particularly TikTok". It shows. She has no ability to be in the background or support a bit, not just here, but in every time she's been in a sketch this season. Her Weekend Update bits have been pretty good, but my guess is she's utilizing her skills from social media. Outside of that skillset... she needs to work on developing a natural cadence.
