A surprise Cities Skylines 2 was just released and I can't wait to explore it with you! We'll continue building on PoplarPonderosa's Victoria, Canada map, adding all of the assets!

If you use the path tool and hover along the parks with perimeter paths, you can find a spot to originate your custom path off. For example, on the big rectangular one, you can do the corners, the junctions, or anywhere else you see the highlights end where there is a node. Pretty cool they are adapting that into gameplay.

Another thought: You made a comment about how a residential area in Victoria used to be industrial. It would be cool if there was a mechanic in the game where you can convert unused offices and warehouses into residential (as happens IRL in old cities).

We will probably get mods like Service Blocks or Customize It one day. I'd be surprised if CO made this a vanilla thing. But maybe!?

It's getting there, but two glaring issues. One is Performance. CS2 starts bogging down at around 50K pop on a i9 and 32gb of ram. It will never be playable on console like that. Second is the traffic and pathfinding AI. Yeah they use more the one lane now, but the AI is still just as bad if not worse than CS1 in most regards. Better yes, but they still have a long way to go.

Hey Phil. In regards to deleting those hideous smoke stacks on the industrial buildings, you can buddy and very easily. All you need is better bulldozer and plop the growables. The smoke stacks are just props. Plop the growables is needed because when the building levels up and changes it's appearance the smoke stack reappears. So you need plop the growables to lock the building's appearance so the smoke stack doesn't come back. I tend to lock my buildings at various levels to give some variety in appearance with my industrial buildings. I have not one smoke stack in my city and it looks way WAY better. I can't tell though for sure if deleting them affects air pollution as I haven't tested that out. If you do and it does let us know. Your welcome ;-)

You could move to Manual Focus to avoid your lens breathing effect (you could also increase your aperture to stay in focus).

Hey Phil - Love the video as usual and excited to get started on CS2! Don't sweat the live-stream timing. As long as there's a nice video to chill with for those of us who can't make it, life is good. Just wanted to throw this out there about the office fix not impacting existing businesses: Implementing code that only runs once to retroactively change values for a transient condition that is part of an active, larger calculation - especially in something as complicated/intricate as CS2's economy - can be more trouble than it's worth. I suspect the challenge would be having the game engine know when it's appropriate to run that one-time fix and/or coding the means to trigger it. (And very likely figuring out how to restrict that code to run approximately one time per office per world.) It makes far more sense programmatically to have the changes go into effect for "new" offices, whether it's newly zoned, newly occupied, or newly built businesses. Yes, it's not optimal for the players - but the law of unintended consequences absolutely makes a one-time "reset offices" code fraught with potentially wreaking havoc with other elements in the game. Better to have a manual intervention with a fix that works than automatic updating with a fix that creates new problems.

With the schools, I agree that the urban high school is great. What seems off to me is that urban elementary school is massive. Same with the original one. I don't know about the U.S. but in Canada, the UK and Europe, elementary schools are usually much smaller than high schools, and several elementaries will feed into one larger high school. That being said, the issue I had with my first city (which I got to over 100k) was that the schools kept filling up really fast, and I needed to have elementary schools everywhere, with all the upgrades, which seemed quite unrealistic to me. I haven't tried to open it in Eco 2.0 yet, so perhaps that will change now.

@@TheNBSPerry I love mods, and may resort to that if things don't get fixed, but I would still like the base/vanilla game to work somewhat realistically. Mods should ideally exist to enhance the game and add new features, not to fix problems

I think a source of the issue may be that uneducated adults also go to elementary school? Iirc thats how it works, cuz everyone has to take the same educational steps.

Regarding the mic, I would suggest adding a compressor (or tweaking your existing one if you have one). Assuming you're using OBS it's in the audio filters. If adjusted right it should bring your lows and highs closer together so there's less noticible difference between facing the mic head on vs off center to it.

It was asked during the stream if the latest patches included any performance fixes. Well, I'm not sure it's a fix but I have noticed that my video card doesn't heat up as much since the patches were installed. I've been able to just about get to 100k population in my city with the Eco 2.0 patch and the detailer's #1 patch. Once you get through the first part of the economy, then the money just rolls right in. But my point is that there is not so much heat coming from my desktop now. That's a good thing for the long term, I think. Great stream as always. Always seem to miss it live though :(. Probably because I have to work.

I've really found your videos and tips helpful as I just started playing CS2. Any chance you'd be able to do some content like your beginners guide but on the new economy update. I realized that you had much more money and I'm having issues with my budget as well as expanding/balancing the taxes to increase/decrease the zoning needs. Thanks.

Hey CPP, this may sound like a joke comment but I'm dead serious, my favourite coffee is a marble blend called "Balzacs"... It has to be the best coffee I've ever drank, next to Tim Horton's canned coffee. The real Tim's coffee is terrible now, McDonald's in Canada now sells Tim Horton's original coffee while Timmies now sells Burger King coffee 🤢

It’s getting better, but the city still doesn’t feel as alive as cities 1. In cities 1, if you built it, they would come. But in cities 2, the parks are empty people aren’t walking around, I miss bikes… so it still needs more.

Was really funny to see the comments about the size of the football pitch in the gymnasium-upgrade to the new elementary school. It's clearly a 5-a-side-pitch, which is common in the Nordic countries to have when space is a bit limited and on smaller school yards.

Not sure if you did this after I posted but did you turn the garbage facility to empty on the bottom where you can close the facility. Love the content, inspires me to build better every time. My fav is just following a city taxi and watch the city drive by

I think the game became easier after last update. The income rised in my city from 120k to 300k. Doing nothing, but updating the game. What's more interesting, I found out that more people started to use public transport. I like that update :D

If Phil has an issue with the mics not picking up his voice as he moves around, he should consider using a lav mic. Though he'd have to remember to remove the mic when he went to do something mid stream. Wouldn't want a Vivek Ramaswamy hot mic moment.

Stairs and a modular switchback for pedestrian access is absolutely needed. Making things accessible now is torture because of how paths work, it could be a very compact asset instead.

18:45 Nah Phil, we have low expectations. We're losing our minds over a couple dozen assets because we've gotten hardly anything except for disappointment for 9 months
