But, to Me, it sounds like it says: "I've been wasting most My life LIVING for the day. When, like bugs, We've figured out how to make LIGHT stay"... Any insight?

I always heard it as "I've been wasting most my TIME, LIVING for the day, when, like bugs, we'd figure out, how to make LIGHT stay." Not much of a difference to what you heard, but you're not the only one.
