In Walking Tour of Bodie Ghost Town State Park Near Mammoth, CA - Virtual Travel 4K California Walk we take you on a virtual treadmill walk of this really cool state park in the desert of central California on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Bodie was a gold rush boom town with thousands of people seeking their fortune in the desert. It was a rough town with a fairly violent history. This historical walking tour starts in the cemetery overlooking the town and we make our way back down through the town and try to gaze into the very reflective windows. There's lots of old buildings to learn about but the town was much larger before nature began to take its toll. It's great virtual treadmill workout if you are on your exercise machine or just a great taste of virtual travel if you are interested in California and the gold rush. Our channel is called City Walks but we branch out from time to time to take you to less developed areas, small towns, and natural areas.
If you have a request or question or comment, pleas let us know in the comments section below. Thanks!

Hi Henry, I thoroughly enjoyed this virtual tour and walking on the treadmill with you as narrator providing the history behind this beautiful mining town. Thank you again for the time you spend putting in the effort to make these videos possible for walkers like myself who cannot travel and are limited to outdoor activities. My family visited Bodie not long after it became a state park in 1962. Now I live about 80 mi from Bodie. My hubby and I visited in 2007. I took a few pictures and we walked up and down the main street. So thank you for so much for your extensive walk around the town! And thanks for the suggestion to check out Traveling Mel.

This one is in my neck of the woods! I live in central NV, at the base of a modern gold mine. I'm happy to see they are maintaining the old town, cause I've heard of Bodie, CA. Your talking gives it the personal touch, so keep it up. We just never made it over there. . . .till now. Thanks!

@@CityWalks when we were kids, my Dad always took us to the Eastern Sierra (the great angler🤣)for the opening of trout season. We fished in the “necklace” of lakes that included June Lake. We camped at the Lee Vining/So Cal Edison camp grounds on the eastern entrance of Yosemite@Beartrack Creek. My favorite places to go were Mono Cone, Bodie and Schat’s Bakery in Bishop for Squaw Bread. Bodie in April sometimes had snow on the ground. It was magical😊 Thanks for sharing your walk!!!!!!

This is so interesting. Made me think of Little House on the Prairie for some reason,and almost expected the Ingalls family to pop out from behind a building (ha) I loved being able to see in some of the buildings,and it made me wonder about the people who lived,and worked there. Can't wait to see what place we visit next.

I have wanted to visit Bodie for so many years; this tour was the next best thing! Thanks so much for posting. Looking at these old ghost towns, I like to imagine what was on the minds of people living there in those times. What weight were they feeling on their shoulders as they went about their work and social activities, and what brought them happiness and joy? I noticed utility poles lining some streets, more, closer to the center of town. Perhaps those boilers seen in the video powered electric steam turbines, which powered the town's "grid"? Was telephone service available? So many fun mysteries to research.
@CityWalks
@CityWalks 3 жыл бұрын
Well, actually, it is still inhabited by park personel. I'm not sure about the old grid or how it was powered. Glad you enjoyed it. -H
