Civ 5 Timings: Frigates

The main problem of naval wars is that the guy with firstmove wins despite being outnumbered. I go frig push if there are 0 options to win game otherwise, or I know I will kill the rival smoothly

Not necessarily true, especially if you’re using melee naval vs them using ranged. But of course, first move on coast can be extremely deciding.

Do you think that you could go over Japan in Lekmod? I am trying to wrap my head around what policy they would go well with.

Japan really goes well with anything and is probably one of the strongest scaling Civs in the game with the dojo discipline bonus. I like playing the tradition as the UA helps a lot with pushing culture. That being said you can play anything, I’ve done every tree and have success with it.

I dont agree to your point about non-workshop frigate attacks. With 3 city gl oracle trad explo setup, you get on the other coastals cap at turn 73-74-75 depending on distance with 9-10 frigs and some capture units. Thats not defendible at all imo, especially if opponent has a wide lib setup. With some highroll this can be even earlier. Explo 1 gives the necessary prod.

They can definitely work if executed properly, but I’ve seen them fail way more than I’ve seen them succeed which is why I made that point.

So what is the plan after u kill the coastal oponent? Sim until u get to landships? Any other option?

You can do anything. The nice thing about going explo and killing someone, the cities flip super easy because of the build bonus towards important infrastructure and the base hammers. You’re still just as annoying for any inland player to kill so you can kind of do whatever you want.
