Did the air conditioning in your Honda Civic stop working all of a sudden? Check the relay before taking it to a mechanic!
I have had the relay go out twice in my 2006 civic. If I didn’t know to check the relay first, a mechanic could have put me over a barrel, and sold me an entire new A/C system!
Do not make that costly mistake!

I'm guessing this is your most popular vid because of 4 reasons: -many civic owners out there -the issue is on most civics -your solution fixes the problem for most of us -the solution is simple...for most of us lol Thx a lot dude. Very clear vid. I'm gonna check it now and something tells me I'm gonna save about $1493

I called a couple of shops around me to get an estimate for a new compressor (which is what I thought I needed), one shop told me $600, one told me they’d have to do a $100 diagnosis before they’d even know what to charge me. I was waiting for one shop to call me back and decided to look up common issues on KZbin. Found your video, went to Autozone, got a new relay for $9 and threw it on and now it’s BLASTING cold air! It was straight up hot air blowing until I replaced the relay and now it’s ice cold. I did the little trick to see if the old one would rattle, but it didn’t make any noise so I thought I was screwed, but replacing it worked! Maybe it just burnt out. Saved me so much money and now I have AC again for the summer. Thank you!

Was about to leave for a 3hr drive back home when mine crapped out in my 2009 civic. Watched this video, ran to Autozone, gave it a shot and it worked!!! You are lifesaver!!! It only cost $8 bucks versus spending tons at a mechanic shop! Thank you so much for what you do!!! Edit: Forgot to mention, our relay DID NOT make the rattling sound when we shook it but we decided to replace it anyway. Don't let that discourage you! It may still be the problem!

My air was fine this past Monday, then Tuesday I get in it and it’s blowing hot air. 2007 Honda Civic. I took it to the shop, they recharged and did the Freon and whole 9 yards, replaced the relay, didn’t work. So they said it would be $1500-$1900 depending on if the exhaustion valve behind the dash also needed repairing. They worked on it again this morning and discovered a loose brown wire related to the relay, fixed that, and it works!!! My bill is now $180 for the recharge and Freon and relay work, but I’m thrilled paying $180 instead of the $1500+ I was expecting!

Thank you thank you 12 times over! If only I had come here first. My shop couldn't find a problem, so they just did a full service on the A/C and said they'd fixed it. I left with the same problem I came in with. So, when I was looking under the hood racking my brain, I just slapped the fuse box and the compressor kicked on. You showed me which relay it was, so when I tapped on it with a small ratchet, voila! Comp kicked on again. 5 minute trip to O'Reilly's and a $17 relay, I've got dependable cold air once again. Thanks to YOU.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your channel sir! You are such a fine, upstanding gentleman to take your time to share your skills and knowledge with others! Worth mentioning, if you assumed the refrigerant needed to be refilled and just added more yourself, you could be overfilling the system which would overload that relay causing it to go bad quickly. So although replacing it is part of the solution, I would still get the system leak tested and make sure levels are normal. Advise I received for same issue 2010 civic LX. Best of luck

Hello, I had just overcharged the system I believe and it still blows cold however the engine temps rise because the right side fan engine does not turn on anymore which is the reason why it will lead to overheating, could it possibly be a fuse? I have a 2010 Civic LX, I would go to a mechanic but I do not have any money at the moment. Should I get it recharged? Not sure why the fan won’t turn on. Left one does turn on when I click the AC button but right side does not.

My 2008 EX - I bought new - started flaking on the a/c last summer but would come out of sulk finally quit working in in March... cause of covid I’ve been hesitant to go to auto parts store... but we went to the Hot from the Non Hot season here in Sacramento last week, and I got unlazy and went and got a new relay this afternoon. I watched your vid back in March and rewatched today before heading to O’Reillys... popped the old relay out and new in, buttoned up, started car ... and BOOM a/c clutch is working again and I took it for a 20 minute drive to re-enjoy having a/c again for $20.99 + tax. Can't believe it. Spent some time looking at my clutch thinking that it wasn't spinning because of freon. Even the mechanic said the clutch engaged... Finally after realizing the clutch was not supposed to be stationary I tried one of the tricks mentioned in the forums and swapped my relay with one of the same kind and what do you know it starts spinning. Unfortunately I played with my low pressure so much I am afraid it won't work properly for that reason now. But I can't believe how simple the fix to the problem was, a relay switch and everything seems to spin as it should now. I am realizing now that after so much time it seems these model years have their share of electrical issues. For a long time I had the air bag sensor light on until I finally got on my knees to get under the passenger seat and firmly reconnect the wires and low and behold no more air bag sensor light. Really thought I had an old beat up clutch/compressor since it came from the east coast but I am so thankful I am going to have somekind of A/C for my california summers. 🙏

FYI Those other black relays surrounding the two greenish blue ones are the same Part number as the AC clutch relay so you can just use one of those to troubleshoot your problem quick like before you go purchase one. At least that was the case with my 2007 honda civic EX. Can't say for sure for your model, but just read the PN off the relay to be sure its a match.

This worked on a UK model too, the clutch was not engaging. I pulled it out (using mole grips as it swas tight) it did rattle a bit when shaken, I tested the contacts with a multimeter and put 12v across the 2 pins which had about 120ohms across them (the coil), and tested the other 2 pins for continuity to see if it connected, and although it clicked the pins did not connect/turn on. I hard wired the 2 pins together with a small piece of wire soldered to the box end of the pins so there was still plenty of "legs" left on the relay to put it back in, and the AC is working and on all the time and will get a replacement relay. Thanks for this!

I have to add my thanks, this seems to have been the issue, after we were told, twice, that the compressor was broken and had to be replaced. The interesting part was that after I switched out the fuse, to test it, as you show in the video, I put the old one back in place and - weird thing - the fuse apparently worked. I have to say that when I shook the fuse, as you showed, it did not rattle. I am guessing that by switching it out and then back I reset some part of the system. So, for those others, if the fuse does not rattle, try switching it out and putting it back. Just saying......

This saved me from spending $250 on A/C diagnostic at the dealer where they would have recharged the system with no point. I initially thought I was low on R134-a so the clutch wouldn't engage at all because it was too low. Turns out that was wrong and I broke my recharge hose in the process. Wish I would have checked the relay first. Oh well $6.99 relay and all fixed up. FYI you can swap another relay to check if it is bad. Clutch engaged immediately afterwards. So check the relay and fuses before assuming low R134-a.

Nonetheless, wonderful video very simple, quick, straight to the point, and I can tell youve saved a lot of people a lot of money.

Did you find out whats your issue? My ac went out while using it in freeway and I think I heard a slight hiss on the passenger side inside the car and coincidentally thats where the compressor is at. Think mines is low on R134a OR a rock hits the compressor side and leaked (hissing noise)?

Awesome, thank you! This was just the problem with my 2008 Civic. Relay rattled just like you said. Cost me $9 at Autozone. Popped it in and boom! Cold air again!

Thank you, this was the perfect fix for our 2009 Civic. The relay did not rattle, but the compressor tabs were not spinning (that explanation helped). Great advice, we are very appreciative. So nice to have cool air again!

Replacing the relay worked for me (YAY! Thanks!), but just a note that my relay didn't rattle when I shook it. I was disappointed but then I saw on another video that you can swap in the rad fan relay just to check if a different relay works, which is what I did to verify it was, in fact, the relay that was the problem.
