One of the 1st keys here is to understand what an axle is and how different vehicles have different axle counts. . 2nd key is to setup 2 eqns/2 unknowns. .. 2X + 5Y = 1067 .. -0.15X + 0.85Y = 0 . 3rd is to make a 2x2 matrix and have your machine solve it. Like so: X Y K 2 5 1067 -0.15 0.85 0 Thus X= 370.18, Y=65.33 . 4th is to add up the # cars and # trucks. X + Y= 435.51 vehicles. Ans "C".

I don't think that much calculation is needed. If n is the total number of vehicles, then 2*0.85n + 5*0.15n = 1067 would provide the value of n as 435

Trail and error method might be simpler - just a thought

that's what I did
